Springfield Lawmakers want money to rebuild areas wracked by looting and reforms to end racism that ‘has torn us apart’ – Chicago Sun-Times

State Rep. La Shawn Ford, D-Chicago, called for Pritzker to sign an executive order that Ford says will free up spending to help rebuild African-American communities around the state in the wake of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the looting.

“We know the black community has been hit the hardest by COVID-19, the black community has been hit the hardest by violence, the black community has been hit the hardest by police brutality and the black community has been hit the hardest by the recent looting and riots,” Ford said.

Just ask the blacks to compassionately return everything they looted, and fairly repair everything they destroyed or damaged.

And the same with all the other races, but it seems the blacks did most of the looting.

How about rewards for tips that lead to prosecutions?

Not one penny should be given. The Model Cities, Urban Renewal and Empowerment Zones have mostly failed. Let the Blacks pour their own monies into and patrol their own Black businesses. ?

No. Government protects what private parties build, that was the bargain, we do our part in paying the taxes to support it. The bargain was not honored by government. Therefore government should have no part of any rebuilding discussion, and deciding on the winners and the losers. Government had it’s turn here, and it came up extremely short. Why would anyone believe any future such responsibility would be anymore successful.

So….where is this money coming from? Illinois is on the edge of default and then bankruptcy. Oh, I forgot. These are Illinois politicians and mostly Democrats and they all failed Math in school. This money comes from the magic tree next to the unicorn corral.

The reality of bankruptcy will be especially harsh for these buffoons.

I was driving up Tower Road heading west from Sheridan Rd the other day and noticed more for sale signs on one strip of road than I ever recall seeing before. Now why would all the good citizens of Winnetka suddenly want to move?

Could they possibly be planning to join Mrs. Pritzker in Florida?

With all these high end taxpayers getting out while the getting is good, who will J. Beluga have left to use his newly minted graduated income tax on?

Has anybody here ever heard of something called the “middle class”?

It’s been difficult to sell property on the north shore for a while. Taxes, location and older properties are a tough sell when there are gentrified areas of Chicago area available; and combined with IL’s slow drip of a population decline, there are just too many luxury neighborhoods for too few luxury buyers.   You see, the gentrification of Chicago broke the cycle of the north shore. 30 years ago, the DINKS would have moved from Chicago or their college town back home to the north shore to start a family. The would use family money to snap up high… Read more »

White CPS’ student population has been decreasing for years since the 1960s, for many reasons, including decreasing standards, lesser punishments, no Bibles, no prayers, busing (September 1977-June 2009) and more. ?

The 9%ers also include Whites choosing their local schools, while some opt for deluxe schools. This is true on Chicago’s Northwest Side, which has experienced private school closures too. ?

Not all of the White 9%ers are from gentrifying areas. ?

Of course not all, but many, especially the elementary schools all along the lakeshore neighborhoods.

Yes, this is true. As you said earlier, those Whites will soon move away to the North Shore. ?

I would also recommend a nice little cruise northward along Sheridan Rd, say from about Kenilworth to Tower Rd. There is more “lakefront mansion” building going on along that strip than I have ever seen before and I have been cruising that area, whether it be by bicycle, topless Jeep, motorcycle or just plain car since the early 60’s.

Something very fundamental is occurring on Chicago’s Northshore and I can’t figure out why no one in the media is writing about it.

It’s been a while since I’ve driven on Sheridan road, for sure. No one is writing about it because they don’t want to attract attention. As many people are saying, this George Floyd thing isn’t a race conflict, it’s a class conflict, and the wealthy woke liberals would have their new mansions looted and burned if the protestors directed their anger at the real enemy – the 1% woke progresssives who control all the money – instead of the local cop just trying to finish his 12 hour shift.

Number of half-empty Chicago public schools doubles, yet lawmakers want to extend school closing moratorium – Wirepoints

A set of state lawmakers want to extend CPS’ current school closing moratorium to February 1, 2027 – the same year CPS is set to transition to a fully-elected school board. That means schools like Manley High School, with capacity for more than 1,000 students but enrollment of just 78, can’t be closed for anther three years. The school spends $45,000 per student, but just 2.4% of students read at grade level.
