State senators, energy experts discuss need for more energy options to meet demand – WAND (Decatur)

National energy experts told the Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee Thursday that Illinois needs to use a mix of energy sources to ensure the power grid can meet growing demand. Downstate lawmakers are concerned that manufacturing companies won't want to move to Illinois if there are frequent blackouts.

The article said that in Illinois, electric generation from gas was 40% and coal 15%. Google says Illinois nuclear is 50%. What’s the wind and the sun doing? By the way, 40 years ago I was all for renewables as were most of my engineer friends. 35 years ago I watched Maui (16 trips) start with windmills for generation and battery banks for energy storage. Blackouts are on the way you can make book on it. Demand will increase without new sources. The spinning reserve is gone and
People will chose air conditioned at night
Or charging your cars, can’t have both without crashing the grid.
