State Shutdown Will Last ‘Deep Into April,’ Lightfoot Predicts — And She Doesn’t Want Trump’s Advice – Block Club Chicago

“We cannot afford in Chicago to be guided by anything that President Trump says. We just can’t,” Lightfoot said. “It’s not reliable. It’s not based on data or science.”

President Trump has acces to much better info than any of our inferior IL officials, and that’s the facts.

Then why wasn’t Trump better prepared for the virus. Illinois should have been as well. My understanding is there is a 15 year old, 120 page plan than Illinois has to respond to a pandemic. How well was the plan carried out?

A nice timeline summary of what the administration was doing and what the left was doing in Jan and Feb this year. If you’re interested.

You’re truly pathetic, really. All you can do is bash Trump when your own pathetic local Democrat rulers are ones who have failed you. Soon enough you’ll be seeking medical assistance for TDS and Wuhan Virus.

I agree local democrats have failed but the federal government has failed even more. The U.S. and South Korea had their first cases reported on the exact same day in January and South Korea was prepared to take action and did while the U.S. was not. South Korea is now reporting less than 100 new cases every day and didn’t shut down the economy in order to do that. They implemented track and trace, as did Taiwan, and seemed to have gotten things under control. The FDA ans CDC are also to blame for the slow and inadequate response but… Read more »

“They implemented track and trace, as did Taiwan, and seemed to have gotten things under control.” Track and trace is clearly unconstitutional the US population wouldn’t stand for it. I was out today and no one, I repeat no one, was wearing a mask or gloves or anything. You’re also being disingenuous, because these two countries are small, centralized and homogeneous. The US is 50 sovereign states with 50 elected governors. We are also not Italy or Spain, or even Wuhan province, as our death rates per capita are far lower than most of the rest of the world. how… Read more »

Sun-Times 2/28/20: Even as the state announced plans to expand testing for the coronavirus to help diagnose the virus more quickly, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Lori Lightfoot insisted on Friday that Chicago and Illinois are prepared for any outbreak. Both Lightfoot and Pritzker stressed that the risk of contracting the virus in Illinois is low — despite the World Health Organization on Friday saying the risk of the disease spreading is very high at a global level. “There really is no cause for alarm,” Lightfoot said. “Our residents should continue to enjoy the city and neighborhood…” “All I’m saying… Read more »

Maybe Lightfoot and Pritzker felt optimistic because of what Trump said on Feb 26, “Because of all we’ve done, the risk to the American people remains very low. … When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero. That’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”

Very true, very true. Pelosi said today that Trump is fiddling while people are dying. Which is a complete and utter lie, a falsehood, a fabrication. It is sooooooo infuriating when these TDS infected politicians are more concerned with bashing Trump than actually doing their jobs.

Mark, I agree. I was being sarcastic. Trump has been very erratic in what he has been saying, not to deflect blame from what is going on at the state level.

Trump is always erratic. But if I look at my timeline…..Back in January, Trump closed the borders to China, and implemented a number of other steps to curb the virus and buy time.

Democrats were…taking a meaningless impeachment vote.

Yeah, this is 100% the DemocratVirus

But Trump’s over all approval rating is still south of 50%, but highest since being president. But approval ratings are fluid and if the economy craters and unemployment quickly surges above the 10% high in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, I seriously doubt his ratings will stay this high.

Wait until the debates and Biden is drooling on himself.

What debates, social distancing may still be in effect. Although Joe only has to say one thing: “Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?”. The one thing going for Trump is that he’s running against Biden. The dems can still screw this up big time but as the economy heads south it’s gonna be harder and harder for Trump to convince voters he’s the best man for the office.

That seems to conflict with the most recent WashPo poll that says “52 percent of voters said they trust Trump more than Biden to handle the economy. Forty-two percent said they trust Biden more than Trump to handle economic matters.” Which make sense, as this was not a failure of the economy, but corornavirus, that is destroying all of the major economies on earth. This is not a Trump specific thing. That 42% who prefers Biden would vote for a ham sammich, any one, or anything, other than Trump, as one of my progressive friends told me.

Number of half-empty Chicago public schools doubles, yet lawmakers want to extend school closing moratorium – Wirepoints

A set of state lawmakers want to extend CPS’ current school closing moratorium to February 1, 2027 – the same year CPS is set to transition to a fully-elected school board. That means schools like Manley High School, with capacity for more than 1,000 students but enrollment of just 78, can’t be closed for anther three years. The school spends $45,000 per student, but just 2.4% of students read at grade level.
