Gov. Pritzker claims that Democrats cut taxes for everyday people. What tax cuts? Illinoisans are paying the nation’s highest property taxes, the 2nd-highest gas taxes and the highest cell phone taxes. Kiplinger ranks Illinois third in the nation in its list of “least tax-friendly states for middle-class families.” Where are the tax cuts for everyday Illinoisans, Gov. Pritzker?

Highest property taxes: Illinois metro areas take the top four spots for nation’s highest property taxes.
The grocery tax shuffle: Gov. Pritzker’s grocery tax shuffle
Pritzker’s $1 billion tax hike: States across the country are cutting taxes. Illinois just raised theirs by nearly $1 billion.
Audio and summary
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
Expect no retraction or apology. This what they do.
I was born and raised in IL, living there until age 42. I now live in CO where people don’t have to be preoccupied with taxes and being gouged. My advice: get out of IL like it’s a burning building. Things that you worry about by leaving IL will be figured out when you have more of your money and flexibility.
With Pritzker’s sales pitch abilities he would make a great vacation timeshare sales person in Branson
Asking a serious question. Does anyone commenting on this board think that illinois can be returned to a lawful fiscal state? The answer if you are truthful is No.
So what is the point of spending your only god given life being a tax mule for these low life grifters? If you are a productive freedom loving individual there are so many better places to live other than illinois.
Ned – True words. Logical words. The Challenge in relocation for many is family and distance. Many have spent decades and more their entire lives in Illinois, have roots, have relationships, have children, grandchildren in Illinois and their lives in Illinois. Taxes are a pain in the a#$ and yes, this state (I fear) is beyond saving and we like to bitch about them…. but taxes are just money and in many cases unfair money.
But, as illogical as it sounds…Life and family is the real Gold.
daskoterzar I agree family is everything. As someone who has never made a 6 figure income and being self employed I found myself working vast amounts of time to pay ridiculous property taxes. It simply sucked the joy of life away. After my children grew up and moved to Tennessee there was no coming back to illinois. If I lived there now I would be working 3 months to net enough income to pay those same taxes. I might work 2 weeks to pay my taxes at our new 3 year old home. My family now has a place to… Read more »
Ned, my friend after reading your note here, I’d say you won the flippin lottery! Are able to live near your family (the Gold), make a good living and not be taxed into oblivion. That’s Life’s Hat Trick. Be well.
True. Aging parents and in-laws are here and a mortgage that is 2 3/8%… And one kid not yet out of college… Once she’s done… May be time to hit the road. JB is, all at once, dishonest, a failure, a tax cheat, and, based on his egregious grab for power during COVID (all while flaunting his dictates), an egomaniac of titanic proportions.
All of that suggests better days for Illinois… Haha. Kidding. We haven’t hit rock bottom yet… What a joke.
Land of Lincoln, indeed.
1) the 1% Grocery Tax does not Expire until Jan 1 2026.
2) the 1% Grocery Tax revenue has been collected by State of Illinois, then it all goes to the city(or county) where store located. Around me, cities are considering/passing ordinances to restore the 1% Grocery Tax. The $$$ lost as of Jan 1 2026 has to be found/replaced in their budgets.
So, JB caused a big problem for Illinois ciiies/counties just to have a deceptive sell job about lowering State Taxes.
Honestly, I love it. Watching my fellow Illinoisans suffer is, sadly, quite ironic. Votes have consequences and the folks who continue to line up for Lib/Dem/Progs deserve everything we are getting.
Sadly, these folks are condemning their children to a garbage life…
Don’t blame the voters. There is nothing they can do to change things. They are completely helpless. Blame the politicians.
This is Trust Fund Baby math in action. Just take the dollar increases in taxes culled from the plebes and multiply it by a negative one. Only this way can JB the Hutt frame every one of his egregious tax hikes to be a tax cut. The Hutt figures everyone has a massive offshore trust fund and mansions all over the globe like he does, so he thinks his “tax cuts” should be no problemo for the Chumbolones. The Broke Failed Pension Fund, formerly the State of Illinois, routinely leads the nation in outmigration. The Chumbolones are always expected to… Read more »
He lies as much as Biden, just louder.
Delirious! Mental testing should be ordered.
And not the change of a Nickel, or any bounce in their shoes. But has some of the highest paying pensions and with the highest annual increases. The unfunded pension deficit is growing like a cancer and will increase for many years to come. So, expect higher taxes in the future. This is the price you pay for letting public sector unions run the state.
Elimination of grocery tax
Property tax rebates up to $300 in 2022
Pretty thin gruel there.
No doubt but the article ended by asking “where are the tax cuts”? I provided the where.
clown
Elimination of the grocery tax? Hardly. Pritzker took credit but allowed cities to enact their own hikes…which over 400 have already done. https://wirepoints.org/gov-pritzkers-grocery-tax-shuffle-wirepoints/
And, seeing as the average Illinois property tax bill grew by $434 last year, a $300 rebate only lessened the increase for most. It’s not really a cut.
I can confirm the grocery tax is alive and well. Thank the good lord above my law firm is doing so well, otherwise I might be feeling the pinch at the register! 🙂
Yes, Pritzker cut the grocery tax and the tax and spend local politicians decided to increase them.
Read our piece. First of all, the grocery tax revenues Pritzker cut belong to local cities and counties across Illinois, and not to the state. So when he cut the tax, he created a mess for local governments. They now have to deal with large, unexpected holes in their budgets. That means they have to either cut local services or hike taxes. Pritzker’s state budget, meanwhile, didn’t take a hit. Effectively, Pritzker robbed Illinois cities of their revenues and then bragged about helping Illinois families, all the while making it easy for cities to hike their own tax and unwind… Read more »
$400 is…not that much money (unless you’re poor).
FFS, the property tax rebate was a one time rebate and the municipalities have been enacting the grocery tax.
FPP uses Trust Fund Baby math.
It may be that tariffs are banned today by an obscure international trade court in NY.
Taxcuts? that’s funny. I haven’t seen anything but tax increases. The car tabs went up from $79 to over $150 …land taxes are up massively 5% this year alone we pay over $12,000 a year in land taxes in Naperville …..gas taxes up high and don’t forget the dems tried to jack up The income tax too yet even higher, but it was rejected by the voters. Every time fatty makes a statement it’s always a lie. He’s too delusional to even realize how much of a liar he is. He has zero chance of being president and it’s laughable… Read more »
This guy is a BS artist. This is a lie. There was a time when telling lies was a problem, something people were embarrassed about and ruined their credibility. Seems now, he can stand there, look us right in the face and tell us he has provided tax cuts…when we know we are paying more now than ever. There are no tax cuts, only increases – everywhere.
Because the IL press never calls him out on these lies. He does what he knows he can get away with — lie, lie, lie.
When JB’s lips are moving he’s lying!!
That’s not accurate or fair…a lot of the time the Happy Meal Warrior is eating.
Good point, my bad.
PDJT is the ONLY elected leader working hard to cut taxes for citizens in IL with his no tax on tips, no tax on SS, and extending the TCJA. EVERY IL Democrat is working against these tax cuts for everyday taxpayers in IL.
Don’t expect all that much from anyone who panders to those who drool over the thought of tax cuts happening. Campaign “promises” tend to evaporate all too often once an election victory has been achieved. “Promise her anything, but give her Arpege” as a TV commercial from the stone age used to say.
You need to pay better attention – The TCJA has been in effect for a number of years saving middles class taxpayers many thousands every year in taxes. The House bill is out of committee with many new tax cuts for middles class families. I know this just breaks your Leftist Democrat heart, but most of America will be very happy.
My friend, there are exceptions to every rule, and I didn’t state nor even suggest my posting should be taken as 100% certainty. Still, it’s a good statement as to what can be expected generally. “Paying better attention” doesn’t apply in such cases.
A Pritzker tax cut would be raising taxes 7% instead of 8%.
He’s attached at the hip to the ‘trans movement’…
So, in his mind, his tax increases ‘identify’ as tax cuts…
No such thing as tax cuts have ever entered a democrat politicians mind. Spend, waste, repeat is the mantra of the democratic party. It’s not their money and certainly isn’t Pritzgers who was handed a billion or so dollars from the family trust fund and has never had a legitimate job is his entire bloated life. Rein in the school taxing that consumes 80% of my property tax bill that has multiple single school districts with superintendents, assistant superintendents, office staff, principals, assistant principals and multiple layers of administration that eat up huge amounts of cash.
Don’t be a Scrooge. After all “ it’s for the kids!”.
Agreed. So True. I’ve been hovering around $9500 annual property taxes for a couple of years, but this year, we broke the $10K ceiling. I know many are paying more, but there is something about paying 5 figures for property taxes is just feels so wrong. The majority is school district and for some sort of government services that I never see and provide me no benefit. .
Don’t move to Bowmanville Dask.
There are taxes for local Gov., Township Gov., County Gov., schools, mosquito abatement and much more. Far too many entities of Gov. Tax is only to provide a second pension to favored public workers.
