The latest targets of the cancel mob: DePaul Prof. Jason Hill and his views on trans women in sports – Wirepoints

The latest assault on diversity of opinion, which should be central to higher education, is by students themselves on Jason D. Hill of DePaul University in Chicago. He dared to say that trans women – those who were previously male – ought not be competing in sports against biological women.

What exactly did he say? The school’s paper, The DePaulia, has the story, and it’s almost entirely about these words, which Hill wrote on Twitter:

Trans people should be treated with dignity. Agreed. Trans women ought not to be competing in sports with biological women. Why? Transwomen are still biological men with all the physical privileges of male strength. This move is misogynistic and a declaration of war against WOMEN.

Prof. Jason D. Hill of DePaul

That’s enough to enrage the mob.

Most of the article goes on to argue that “Hill’s tweet stating trans women are at a physical advantage is largely untrue scientifically.”

I guess that means it’s just chance that trans women are shattering hard-earned records set by biological women in sport after sport around the world. “At all levels of sport, they’re stepping onto the podium and into the headlines.” That’s how Wired put it, and countless other stories have documented the same thing.

There are also quotes from a former student of Hill, Grace Gallant, who says she is “shocked” that DePaul even gives him a platform. But the only additional evidence she offered that’s in the article is that Hill “said that we would be discussing ‘if a biological man could ever be a woman.’” Apparently for that reason, Gallant says Hill is “violently transphobic.”

The university itself has yet to take any action on the controversy.

The ascent of sports for women, including equality in athletic scholarships under Title IX, is among the best things for women that has happened over my lifetime. Particularly gratifying is seeing them share the unique experience of high intensity sports like field hockey or basketball. And you no longer hear the phrase “throwing like a girl.” Girls today can throw out a runner from third base harder than most boys could when I was young.

But the mob today cares nothing about that. It will destroy women’s sports just as it hopes to destroy Jason Hill.

UPDATE: For young people (and older ones, too), I hope you will take a moment to read this article about why some old school liberal ideas are worth saving.

While a DePaul alum, this is yet another example of why I will not respond to their fundraising efforts. The iniversity today is very different, with no demonstrated leadership attempting to balance conservative and liberal viewpoints. They appear to have gone all hard left. And the students who call are brats with an entitled attitude.

There is no such thing as “transwomen”. There are persons with the disorder called “gender dysphoria” which is a medically treatable condition… You either have the disorder, or you do not. You don’t magically change into anything else. You are still the same person with the same disorder, and it should ONLY be diagnosed by a medical professional. Self-diagnosis is irresponsible and ill-advised. No organization has any standing/mandate/imperative to recognize the disorder in those that self-diagnose.

Trans women are men. If they weren’t men, there would be no need to transition.

It’s amusing to me that the “Land of Lincoln” has embraced what’s called the Cancel Culture, very much as Lincoln did during his war. Many, many were jailed; newspapers were shuttered. At least one member of the House was deported. Honest Abe did more than his share of canceling in his time. Cancelers today are following in his footsteps. Check it out. There is at least one sport, non-contact, in which males and females can compete equally. Shooting. For success in Olympic trap and skeet, I believe, look no further than Kim Rhode, who’s collected a bushel of medals from… Read more »

Isn’t DePaul a Catholic university? Weird that the church values are not even given a place at the table. If the coach of the DePaul womens basketball team decided to actively recruit a full team of transgender Men he would smoke the league! especially with the smaller basketball. Now if this teacher had said that he thinks the womens team should consist of all transgenders so that we can win titles, would they have also chastised him for that?

Great article Mark. Don’t let the haters nit pick your words. I suspect that Wirepoints and most of the readers on this site understand that biological men can’t become biological women and that biological men have significant physical advantages over biological women.

All the Soccer moms across the US who voted for this in choosing Biden for president- what twisted logic will they use to justify this to their daughters? How will they claim that this is fair?
This is part of the broader push of the left to invert reality into that Orwellian world where
war is peace

“what twisted logic will they use to justify this to their daughters?” Transwomen are women too. That’s the logic. They live by the motto “Don’t be a TERF”. I know these soccer moms, and most of them are feckless, clueless, screachy wine drunk Karens. They’ve gone full lib FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, even though they live in nice suburbs, with few minorities and excellent schools, where everyone is married, and above has an average income and there is low crime. 12 years ago these communities were Republican strongholds but flipped to Progressive Democrat as the Karens abandoned their working… Read more »

KariAnn is being funny because she knows it’s true. I’m just paraphrasing Tucker, who says that the top 10% pushes all this crap on everyone else but they themselves live in two parent household in high income neighborhoods. No one is divorced or has a baby momma because it’s bad for the kids and family. But they tell YOU its OK to have abortions, children out of wedlock, have multiple children with multiple different men; but for them, no thank you they say.

That is of course not logical. All there are, are persons with a medically treatable disorder called “gender dysphoria”. Having a disorder doesn’t magically turn you into anything else. You are still the same person with the same disorder. The day we think that magic is actually logic, is the day the western world commits suicide.

This is why John Kerry can get on national TV and say “we” have only 12 years to “save” the world from “climate change”, and so many on the Left believe him. Science and facts don’t matter. The fastest high school girl in the country is slower than +300 boys, so biology makes a BIG difference. Duh! Transgenderism and Climate Change are like a pagan orthodoxy for most on the Left, and they can’t stand to be challenged on simple facts. Their world view is a fantasy.

Wish wirepoints could get it right. There’s no such thing as “previously male”. We are no able to turn a male into a female. If you guys can’t get your act together on basic stuff like this, I’m removing you from my newsfeed. I want honest and accurate reporting.

No was intended to be now? But then replace no with not, and two opposing arguments materialize, for the debate of whether a biological man (previously a man) that wants to be labeled as a female, should be allowed to participate in female sports. There is no denying the science that a biological man is physically different than a biological woman. Which is why proponents of allowing bio males in female sports never use science in their arguments. People should be allowed to freely and publicly state their opinion on this issue anywhere in America. But that would reduce the… Read more »

We are living in a sick society where the leftists are looking everyday to be offended or outraged about every little thing.Men have a HUGE advantage over women in almost every sport, men are biologically bigger, stronger, faster, bigger bone structure, more muscle. Why is it that a male athlete cannot compete against other males while using steroids, which does give the steroid user somewhat of an advantage, but the left thinks its ok for a biological male to compete against women which is a HUGE advantage?!-These leftists are sick in the head and disgusting also!-if this continues there will be no more womens athletics.

I agree with what Hill says because it is supported by science. It is deeply disturbing to me that former Hill student Grace Gallant is “shocked” that DePaul even gives him a platform. Her knee-jerk reaction is Cancel him! Is he not entitled to speak his opinion? You gave yours but he can’t? Is Gallant not familiar with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution?

I applaud this professor! He speaks truth!
Follow the science folks! It’s the same as cheating!

fact: scream and yell all you want! It still doesn’t make it true! There are biological differences between men and women period! Acceptance of the truth does not make you a hater!
Try it sometime, it may set you free!
