The Sun-Times’ should give its perpetual, blanket, personal vendettas on January 6 a rest – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

You probably never heard of Mathew Martin. He’s not somebody many in the media like to talk about.

He was among those arrested for breaching the US Capitol Building on January 6, but he was cleared of all charges.

That’s because he was let into the building, the judge in his case found. “I do think the defendant reasonably believed the officers allowed him into the Capitol,” the judge said, adding that cops “were grossly outnumbered at that point.” He called Martin’s conduct “about as minimal and not serious as I can imagine” among Capitol riot defendants.

The Chicago Sun-Times has no similar sense of fairness. They continue to publish week after week the names of every Illinoisan charged in connection with the breach of the Capitol Building on January 6, whether convicted or not, regardless of the gravity of the charge. Their most recent update was October 17.

Their purpose couldn’t be more obvious: To wreck the lives everybody associated with January 6. Proof of actual misconduct be damned.

Inserted in their list is a link that says, “RELATED. January 6 probe offers us a choice: Will we choose truth or one big, fat lie?” The link goes to another Sun-Times column that paints all January 6 intruders in the harshest terms:

Incensed by hate and screaming bloody murder, they stormed the hallowed temple of Congress with fists and poles on Jan. 6, 2021, beating and bruising the blue and leaving a trail of carnage and a crimson stain that continues to threaten this fragile experiment called democracy…. They smeared feces inside the Capitol. Urinated. Erected a gallows and noose. Defiled democracy in brazen, full-throated defiance….The scars upon the souls of Black folk bear witness. The faces of the Jan. 6 mob bear a striking resemblance to those captured in James Allen’s “Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America.” Their faces — men, women, children — glow with arrogance and deep satisfaction as they stand before a fresh kill: a dangling Black body, lynched and charred.

January 6 was a disgrace for the United States. Many who entered the Capitol Building were obviously guilty of crimes, including extremely serious crimes, and must be punished.

But some who entered the Capitol were guilty of lesser crimes and some, aside from Mathew Martin, no doubt were guilty of no crime at all, having been let in, as Martin was, after the police were “grossly outnumbered.”

The Sun-Times apparently cares nothing about that distinction.

This matter is a small chapter in a bigger story, which is why we’re writing about it. That story is the concerted, ongoing effort by many on the left, in office and in the media, to brand all who are right-of-center as monsters. That bigger story is for another day, but suffice it to say that the Sun-Times’ Neil Steinberg is among the most consistent offenders. In a column saying Trump is just like John Wayne Gacy, for example, he wrote that the Republican Party “is a fascist party. All the rest is window dressing. A vote for most Republicans is a vote to end voting.”

Steinberg may have been more direct but he is hardly alone. Clarence Page at The Chicago Tribune also labeled GOPers as fascists, though in a weasily sort of way.

We’re fed up with all of it, and much of the Illinois media is getting worse by the day.

Absolutely fed up with it. We need to stop participating in funding these socialist organizations. NEVER give to a WTTW, WBEZ, NPR or other related organization’s fund drive.

Anybody who still denies there is routine–and apparently coordinated–media censorship by the corporations who dominate TV and the internet needs to explain this evidence.

People still read the Scum-Times, much less any newspaper? I wouldn’t use that Communist rag as toilet paper.

J6 was an inside job – Pelosi’s daughter was there with a film crew.

Right. The vaccine also gives you 5G capabilities and changes your DNA. Not to mention HIV. Why won’t the media report these facts.

Of course it was, because Nancy Legosi and her family are terrorists who need to answer for their crimes against humanity soon.

The Sun Times is a liberal rag read by Illinois liberal wing nuts. In the end, where everything ends up in Illinois, it’s all about the money. The Sun Times wouldn’t keep ragging on this subject if it wasn’t making money or giving them notoriety. You wrote a whole article about it giving them the notoriety they want. I don’t read the garbage in the Sun Times and I just skimmed your artcle. This Jan6th boat has sailed very few people care about it. Sure, this will be a voting issue for some liberal wing nuts in Illinois but most… Read more »

What else is the far left going to campaign on? The economy? Foreign policy? A brilliant, dynamic Democrat leadership? Crime?

I had enough and cancelled my Sunday subscription to the Chicago Tribune when they ran a lengthy article about, wait for it, discrimination against transgender fly fisherman.

Ironically, there are persistent commenters on WP that attack anyone who call people *criminals* in defending the Safe-T Act, claiming that the *arrest* is not a *conviction* (which is true).

However it’s just the opposite with those *arrested* on Jan. 6th charges, they are automatically deemed *guilty*…

A criminal is someone who commits a crime, irrespective of a conviction. Once that occurs, they become a convicted criminal. Those indicted for 1/6 were not all criminals, evidenced by Mathew Martin mentioned above. And yet, the MSM, including the worthless rag Sun-Times, labels them all criminals because, of course, liberal elites and politicians instructed them to do so. I really marvel at how fast subject talking points depart the White House or Congress, arrive at news desks and then are spewed into the public domain.

The Democrats problem with 1/6 is that most voters don’t care anymore. It happened, everyone agrees it was stupid, everyone agrees there should be varying forms of punishment…but everyone has moved beyond it. Well, Republicans and Independents, at least. The Democrats keep dragging this out and have lost any momentum they had with no other tangible accomplishments to fall back on. All the production value and manufactured drama isn’t compelling anymore. Citizens view getting carjacked in front of their kid’s middle school more of a threat than that dude dressed as a caveman. No one filling up their gas tank… Read more »

Correct, Jan 6 is a non-issue. Also, anyone that thinks 2024 is a Biden/Trump rematch is delusional.

We can round up the caveman and those who accompanied him on 1/6, indict them and hold them endlessly in confinement, but we can’t arrest Hunter Biden and try him on charges for influence peddling. Amazing contradiction of equal justice under the law.

With all the talk of Jan. 6th here is a quote from Thomas Jefferson https://oll.libertyfund.org/quote/jefferson-on-the-right-to-change-one-s-government-1776 I believe this article is from John Adams https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Adams/06-04-02-0026-0004 Scroll down to #1 A single Assembly is liable to all the vices. With Illinois having a super majority anything can and was done and NOT in the best interests of it’s citizens. Bailey asked the governor that he had the super majority in his entire term and could and pass most everything so why is Illinois in such a mess? Good question and of course not much of a rebuttal from Pritzker all the while… Read more »

Fake news has become a badge of honor for the MSM. The more we label them as such, the more emboldened they are to continue down that path. Which leads to the obvious conclusion: their bias has always been intentional. However, they are finally, perhaps, paying for their sins. CNN is apparently attempting to change its stripes. CNN+ was an abysmal failure. Ratings are plummeting. Newspapers have been on a downward trajectory for many years. Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act provides immunity to online platforms from civil liability based on third-party content and for the removal of… Read more »

How long before the demise of print newspapers? The Sun-Times online version is free now, I don’t see them being around a whole lot longer.

As a long time newspaper reader I won’t mourn the loss of either the Sun Times or the Chicago Tribune. Both have been on a downward trajectory for decades – and the recent decline has accelerated that decline.

Glad that Mark wrote this important article. These people are Marxists. All that the Democrats have to run on is Abortion and January 6th. I hope some of these individuals can sue for defamation. They are using this hateful rhetoric to divide people to keep their power.

Number of half-empty Chicago public schools doubles, yet lawmakers want to extend school closing moratorium – Wirepoints

A set of state lawmakers want to extend CPS’ current school closing moratorium to February 1, 2027 – the same year CPS is set to transition to a fully-elected school board. That means schools like Manley High School, with capacity for more than 1,000 students but enrollment of just 78, can’t be closed for anther three years. The school spends $45,000 per student, but just 2.4% of students read at grade level.
