Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Kilbride is a perfect example as to why we need Ken Griffin. He forces the IL Dems to spend their money on candidates they wouldn’t have otherwise. Every union dollar thrown at this election is a union dollar that cannot be spent elsewhere.
Interesting story . . . I’ve seen a lot of ads concerning Mr. Kilbride and wondered what all the fuss was about. (Thanks, Wirepoints!) Also looks like the Chicago magazine story has an error or typo: it says, “Kilbride’s 2nd district, which runs from Kankakee to Moline. . . .” I believe that should say that Kilbride is for the 3rd district.
