As usual, no leadership from the Teacher’s Union on why student academics are mediocre, and what they are doing to at least get the kids to average. But the Teachers Union sure whines incessantly about their personal compensation and the need for further featherbedding the school system.

The only thing sadder than these numbers is the amount of rent-free space that the political left enjoys in the brains of all the posters on this site.

Thoughts and prayers to your imaginary God will accomplish nothing…

And your ridiculous excuses and blaming everyone but yourselves will accomplish nothing either… leftist ideas are what got us here. Or haven’t you noticed who has run the cities and the public education system for more than 50 years?

This just confirms the communist agenda. Can we call Democrats Communists?

There four aspects of life that Communists want control over and those are

1) Control of the Media
2) Control of our children
3) Control of your money
4) Control of the police/military

When is it going to stop?

Bureaucracies are always good at protecting themselves. The educational foundation of our youth is being destroyed.
One of many reasons we moved to a different state where teachers unions were more subservient to taxpayers/parents.

Proposed solution: teachers must have X-percent of their clients (students) having positive outcomes (X%-Ability to read, e.g.) before STEPS AND LADDERS AND DEFINED BENEFITS kick in?
In the future of course, because Illinois protects its CURRENT professionally negligent , professional-malpractice-guilty-by-definition doorknob-polishers.

Ever heard of ability tracking? Students of similar ability are generally put in the same classroom(s) if at all possible for any given subject. That suggests there are at least two thoughts that apply. First, its no news that the fast track students will learn more quickly, and the slow track will do the opposite when both are compared to average track students. Secondly, because your simple model would punish the slower track teachers and maybe unduly reward the fast track teachers the “grading scheme” for the teachers has to be different in each case, too. Maybe you knew that,… Read more »

Kids that graduate without having learned will be dependent on government. Most will stay in Illinois and be a drain on society. They will vote Dem (of course). Each year Illinois schools flood the neighborhoods with another batch of illiterates that can either work for minimum wage or turn to a life of crime. The minority that actually do learn and go to college realize that they are better off in another state and leave Illinois. On the other end of the age spectrum, older more conservative voters are passing away. The state, buried in debt, has no reserves to… Read more »

The secular answer for what’s happening in western culture’s around the world is actually quite simple. It concerns the infiltration and total destruction of every institution that would hold our representative republic together, its progressive ideology, and their playbook is, “Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals,” by Saul D. Alinsky, who by the way dedicated this book to Satan, the first radical. Another book that accurately explains the progressive (marxist) movement in America from its beginnings to the present is “American Marxism,” by Mark Levin. We are going back in time to the Middle Ages to two… Read more »

Verum, I think you are dead on. It’s good to see more and more comments like yours putting today’s lurch to the radical left in apocalyptic terms. Victor Davis Hanson has a particularly good, new piece on that. How can it have happened? His answer: “The common denominator in all of this is ideology overruling empiricism, common sense, and pragmatism. Ruling elites would rather be politically correct failures and unpopular than politically incorrect, successful, and popular.” Here is the rest of his column: https://www.zerohedge.com/political/victor-davis-hanson-imagine-unimaginable. I see it from that secular perspective that you and he described. But you can feel… Read more »

I think the word that best describes the current elites is HUBRIS. They cannot ever admit that their ideas were wrong. No amount of evidence of failure can convince them; they MUST BE RIGHT. The ideology is never wrong, instead it is insufficient resources or sabotage by their opponents.

In other words, they are psychopaths. Or, you could call it the first deadly sin.

Progressives are people who subscribed to new beliefs that are contrary to the existing order, kind of like how Christians rejected the values of the Roman pagan order. Except that while Christianity rejected the vices of Paganism in favor of piety and a moral code, our ascendant progressives favor a return to the vice of Paganism. Let’s admit – there are some aspects of Progressive values that are attractive to segments of the population – the government will provide you with food, shelter, education, take care of your children. The government also promises to punish the bad white men who’ve… Read more »

We know that those kind of vibes are totally foreign to any commenters here, but thanks for educating us just the same. I know I’m amazed at least.

That’s the goal, I fear….to end civilization, at least Western Civilization. Seems to me they’re well on the way to accomplishing their goal. Sad, but true.

Why are parents letting their children be abused by the Teachers Union? Go to private school or move, but don’t let them abuse your child.

From the headline I surmise that 75% or more of these students are reading at (or above) grade level. Not too bad. Or maybe a typo.
