There are 5,000 Chicago residents who for the past four months have received $500 a month as part of a one-year program known as Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot. Some Chicago residents will also be part of the Cook County Promise Guaranteed Income Pilot, which recently selected the 3,250 participants via lottery who will receive $500 for two years. Both pilots, which are separate, are funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act, and academic researchers are closely monitoring the programs.
I see some genuine need here, but also dependency and “learned helplessness”. Gail Godwin: “…also wants to have her own place in case her children or grandchildren ever fall on hard times. In late October, a grandson was staying temporarily with Goodwin…” These adult children need to earn their own keep and stop sponging off of grandma, they’ll denude her of every cent if she lets them…
Also, rent is mentioned by all of these three – a better idea would be to pay that $500.00 directly to landlords/utility providers…

A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
