Two large Illinois teachers unions threaten ‘health and safety strikes’ without adequate school COVID protections: ‘No avenue or action is off the table’ – Chicago Tribune
A spokesperson for the Illinois Federation of Teachers, said the union has a host of expectations if schools reopen for in-person instruction in the fall: limiting classroom capacity to 15, allowing instructors to choose whether to teach in-person or remote, required 2-week quarantine upon exposure, special paid leave for employees who need to quarantine, testing availability and revamping of building ventilation systems.
Most teachers are just babysitters so the parents can make a living. What will happen if the kids don’t go back to school? It’s a crime in Illinois to leave your children (under a certain age) home alone.
p.s. I’d like to find a job working 3/4 of a year and paid for the whole year and then only work a few hours a day. Nice gig

Parents are the real teachers. It’s up to parents to homeschool their kids, instead of sending kids to public schools, which are really Communist Indoctrination Camps. ☹️
Well, school districts and teachers need to figure out how to become relevant and useful in the teaching of children again. If the result is pushing this all off onto the parents with some instruction from the District, then fine. People will adapt, but that approach makes the School District irrelevant. The District needs way less people, administrators, buildings, etc. All of that needs to be de-funded. $300B in in Federal fund along with our ridiculous property taxes for home schooling…needs to change.
The unions are not the teachers. The unions do not care about their students and what this is doing to a generation that will be a bunch of nothing.

Whatever teachers, go to the class room, don’t go to the class room. Whatever. Just do something please. Because you working 1 hour a day, dispensing homework for the parents to teach to their children and then “correcting” the homework is a joke. If that’s the new role of a teacher and the only one you feel safe delivering…it isn’t worth the cost.
Fire them all, let private companies takeover home schooling for the kids . Let the parents with kids in school start paying there own way, enough of this burden on taxpayers and money wasted and stolen by school districts.

How many teachers who may plan to strike are public vs private? It seems they just verified they are non essential thus why are they still getting paid. Nurses and doctors are still going to work with them being on the front lines day after day. Maybe teachers could teach by TELEKINESIS and kids could learn by OSMOSIS. (That will probably be demanded in the next contract). Then the kids could bend spoons with there minds. I hear there is a huge demand for spoonbenders in the workplace. Our tax $$$ at work.

firing the anti-science union parasites is another action that’s not off the table
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
