Fake News Fraud Sun-Times Misses The Point Again — No business — whatever size — can survive a place where violence and shoplifting have been decriminalized
What logic is used to claim small businesses replacing big box stores will significantly reduce crime in and around the stores?
The same logic that require Democrats to uncritically believe that putting on a dress and identifying as a women makes one a woman. Democrats have abandoned logic and reason for an ideological belief system. But like Ben Shapiro says, facts don’t care about your feelings.
I keep thinking about the summer of the G. Floyd celebration riots and how the rioters destroyed the mall of small businesses around 47th and Lake Park Ave. Neighborhood businesses destroyed by neighborhood residents and the local news teams laughed about a woman grabbing a mattress and box spring trying to get them in the top of a mini cooper. Chicago’s tax base being destroyed by the citizens. This doesn’t end well!
They don’t care. When everyone in the neighborhood has the ‘I gotta get mine’ criminality attitude, you get looting and demands for lax law enforcement. This stuff is not rocket science. It’s called civilization.
The social fabric, the culture, the community – call it what you will – has become something in these Chicago neighborhoods that simply can’t support businesses.
Chicago needs a visionary Marshal Plan, what it’ll get for the next 4 years is the Marxist Plan.
We’ll see how that works out….
Those small stores typically have much, much higher prices.
Total nonsense from the SunTimes union controlled editorial board. Small businesses don’t have the capital, software, security sophistication, product lock up technology and surveillance capabilities the big boxes have. There isn’t going to be any success for small businesses if the big box operators can’t handle it.
The reality-detached Sun-Times board at work again. Independently owned stores will face the same problems WalMart faced and more. And Chicago taxpayers are supposed to fund efforts to keep them open?
The city/state has essentially killed the small mom& pop retailer and prop owners to feed the $not to be diminished promised ones$ years ago. And this editorial is suggesting subsidies to bring back small retailers as some kind of convoluted equity bs scheme–the clown show never ends!!! Even in my middle class NW side neighborhood the retail streets are a ghost town that’s only getting worse. My wife and I are astounded and sympathize with how mostly mom&pop ethnic restaurants, we so love, serving amazing food hang on.
I would be interested in hearing — from you and other Chicago residents — what you think was in the heads of the 65% of voters who did not show up to vote against Brandon, who is a Marxist in all but name. Didn’t they know? Did they think it’s too hopeless to bother voting?
There aren’t enough people who care any more. That’s why they don’t vote. That’s why there was 20% turnout in my local election. 1,000 parents screaming at the school board for the last two years. But on election day, there’s still only 2,000 parents to vote but there are 3,000 progressives that swamped the pools 60/40. The 80% of voters who didn’t show up two weeks ago are moderate Democrats who support ‘the current thing’ anyways so why vote when you know the Democrat will always win anyway.
