Why sheriffs and prosecutors are so concerned about the Safe-T Act in Illinois – Peoria Journal Star

Tazewell County Sheriff Jeff Lower minced no words, saying,""You have our leaders in Chicago saying that we are giving all the control to the judges, and that’s a blatant lie. If you look at the statute, this is a total game changer of how we do our jobs...Cook County is the problem, but these laws are being pushed to the rest of us who didn’t have the same problems of Cook County."

Every state officer, the senate President and House leader except the Treasurer is from Cook County. How should every other county, especially downstate feel about that? Cook County rules. They don’t care.

Considering Cook County makes up over 40% of the Illinois population it makes sense. When you realize that about 50% of the Illinois democrats come from Cook County it makes even more sense. Should they worry about Pope county’s 433 Democratic voters in the last presidential election or Cook County’s 1.725 million voters? So you’re right that they don’t care much. Why should they? 50 of Illinois’ 102 counties account for less than 6% of Democratic voters. Why should they put too much effort into areas that don’t matter as much? When implemented SAFE T will turn the criminal justice system inside out resulting in a giant cluster….! Many violations of SAFE T are considered felonies, even for minor missteps or omissions that will inevitably happen. Criminals are laughing, democrats are smiling, victims are going to be ignored, good, innocent tax payers are shaking.
