"This June, after the close of the legislative session, state representative Hoan Huynh, whose district covers Uptown and Lincoln Square, introduced a bill that would allow local governments to hold binding referendums on whether to opt out of the statewide ban. If a local government’s referendum passes, it would be free to adopt rent control."
Nobody wants to be a small landlord anymore. Too hard to evict tenants engaging in criminal activity. Being a small landlord or even a property manager is just too dangerous. Also, too many laws are being introduced that take away property rights. The eviction moratorium was unconstitutional and rental assistance was not distributed properly. Rent control will not increase affordable housing. Spot on Reese. My advice to small operators is to sell now while they can still get something for their properties. I just don’t see a happy ending to these housing providers.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
