Teachers, I’ve asked this before, and I will ask it again. Why are teachers not all in making sure that children learn to read by 3rd grade? Why are they not protesting curriculum and methods that practically guarantee that kids won’t learn? We have all seen the comments about how difficult teaching is, and I don’t doubt it. But why don’t you see that it will always be so if you continue ignoring the fact that children can’t read? Everyone is playing the hand they have been dealt. Lower grade teachers with kids from broken homes, getting little support or help from the parents. Higher level grades dealing with kids that haven’t yet learned the basics. Some adults may themselves have been poorly educated in Illinois and therefore are simply unable to assist their children. Illinois will not be able to reverse course. The cards have all been dealt. Shame on anyone that thinks there is still hope and ignores the facts. Everything is a mess and getting worse. Any employee will criticize his boss or those higher up the chain if he feels totally secure in doing so. That may not be the total answer to your question, but its a good part. When the boss demands, encourages or even winks you soon get the drift as to what he expects from you and what is “inappropriate.”. Even if he can’t immediately fire you there are other ways he can make your working life unhappy for sure.

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
