You can buy the new pope’s childhood home in Dolton for $199,000 – Fast Company

On 212 E. 141st Place in Dolton—just a few blocks from Andy’s Hot Dogs and Chuck’s Gun Shop & Pistol Range—resides a typical five-bedroom, three-bath, 1,200-square-foot brick home that is about to become a landmark.

Five bedrooms in 1200 square feet? How is that even possible? 🙂 Obviously Baby Boomer kids didn’t expect a lot of space.

Another story that was on local media: there is an identical home at a nearly identical address (“Street” instead of “Place”) nearby, which is occupied by a longtime owner, who has had people at her door for the last 3-4 days mistaking her house for the pope’s old house…

Plus three bathrooms? Aren’t all of those post WWII homes, 2-3 bedrooms, one bathroom? Perhaps the recent renovations added some rooms to the basement.

“Perhaps the recent renovations added some rooms to the basement”

That’s quite possible, in fact, the house my husband and I bought in a small rural town downstate is about the same square footage, and officially has 2 bedrooms, but also has two partly finished rooms in the basement (we’ve since finished them) that appeared to have served as spare bedrooms for teenagers at one time. We didn’t pay anywhere near $200K for it though, thank goodness.

No one wants a 1,200 sq ft home anymore. It has to be at least twice that size. I read some banks offer 50-year mortgages now.

Modeast but very tidy – shows pride of ownership. Brother in FL totally supports PDJT.

Most likely Father Guido Sarducci will buy it. Remember the Find the Pope in the Pizza skit on SNL?

Apparently, the place to find the pope in the pizza, or the pizza in the (then future) pope, is Aurelio’s in (I think) Homewood — the Prevost family, including now Pope Leo, were regular customers.

In point of fact, all of us from Chicago’s south suburbs are Christlike and infallible, so Robert Prevost was a safe choice.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
