“But is it a great deal if we can’t trust our public officials with more of our tax money? Especially considering what we’ve learned the past week, and last year, and the years before about how members of the legislature play fast and loose in their wheeling and dealings.”
“The federal investigation creates genuine political problems for Madigan. His 73-44 Democratic advantage in the House is at some risk in this fall’s election…And later this year, Madigan could get an honest-to-goodness challenge from within his party when Democratic members of the House meet to select their leader.”
While Chicago police updated Fox News viewers about the mass shooting, CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” namesake Chris Cuomo was busy condemning the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to send federal officers to Portland. Over on MSNBC, “The Rachel Maddow Show” ignored the breaking news to criticize President Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
“There are those who mistakenly think, ‘No problem. You can’t eradicate the virus and our numbers are so low, we don’t need to do anything about it,’” Pritzker said. “To them I would say that in every one of the states like Arizona and Florida that are in full-blown crisis right now, it started with a gradual rise in the number.”
Pritzker has been promising since April that he would step up efforts to track people potentially exposed to coronavirus patients. Today, he is pledging more than $150 million to public health departments outside Cook County to bolster their contact tracing efforts, and another $60 million to nine community organizations, also outside Cook, that coordinate regional tracking efforts.
“If we magically had a vaccine in the next week or so, we’re still, this entire year will be a year where we will either be in a hybrid model or an all remote model. I am certain of that,” CEO Janice Jackson said.
A mass shooting is defined by the Centers for Disease Control as an incident in which at least four people are wounded or killed by gunfire. Of those 30 shootings, four have occurred in the past week and two-thirds have happened in June and July. So far, 11 of them in July alone. The were also 11 mass shootings in June. A total of 20 people have been killed and 134 wounded in the 30 shootings.
The mayor acknowledged sending John Catanzara a series of insulting text messages in which she called him a “clown,” “fraud,” “cartoon character” and “liar,” with the expectation that he would make them public. “My characterization of him, I think is 100% accurate, he proves that every single day.”
“If Chicago’s violence continues at this pace, it will be unfathomable. The county morgue fills up. Children lie in coffins. And our city faces a daunting rebuilding job in the wake of the civil unrest sparked by the death of George Floyd and the economic toll of the coronavirus. Who will invest if the violence has no end?”
Gov. JB Pritzker extended the ban on evictions until August 22. Additionally, Illinois lawmakers put into place two programs – each with $150 million in funding – to provide assistance to renters and homeowners at risk of losing their housing because of the pandemic.
“It’s really going to be about optics. Even Fox News watchers, if they see these fully armed, battle-ready storm troopers gassing moms in yoga pants, that is not going to play well even in the reddest states,” one organizer said.
“There are over 117,000 gang members, 55 major gangs, along with 2500 subset factions who are all internally in conflict with each other – and in conflict with the other rival gangs,” Supt. David Brown said.
The Illinois State Board of Education issued guidance for all 852 school districts to follow; The rules include a requirement for all students and staff to wear face coverings, social distancing whenever possible, and gatherings are limited to no more than 50 people.
“There’s been a sexual harassment scandal, there’s been members of his leadership team arrested, he’s chairman of the party,” State Rep. Dan Ugastesaid said. “When you’re the leader, at some point you have to take responsibility for those you are leading and the type of culture you are creating.”
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she appreciates any assistance against gun violence but warned, “if we see any steps out of line, particularly with DHS or Border Patrol, we’re not going to hesitate to take the president to court.” U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth said in a joint statement that they are “relieved the Trump administration says they plan to work with local officials and authorities in Chicago rather than undermine local law enforcement and endanger our civil rights, as their agents have done in Portland.”
Jim Dey: “The ComEd bribery conspiracy been on the radar screen for months now and always had the potential to turn into Mount Vesuvius because of Madigan’s alleged role in it. But other federal investigations remain pending, with some heavy hitters charged and others pleading guilty and cooperating. Where it will lead and how much time it will take is anyone’s guess.”
“Perhaps no citizens have suffered more from the menace of violent crime than the wonderful people of Chicago, a city I know very well,” Trump said. “The citizens of Chicago are citizens of America.”
“The investigations leave voters to wonder whether these lawmakers really were thinking about what is best for Illinois taxpayers when they backed the progressive tax.”
In January, Judge Alison Conlon found that police and city officials had “willfully and intentionally failed to comply” with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act when it denied a request from Charles Green, who was sentenced to life in prison at age 16 after being convicted in a 1985 quadruple murder.
In 2017, West Side youth began asking the city to rename their neighborhood park to honor abolitionist Frederick Douglass instead of slavery advocate Stephen Douglas. A park in a neighborhood that’s about 90 percent Black shouldn’t memorialize a white supremacist, they reasoned.
While promising change around the current vote, the announcement fell short of promising broader change on how the district collects broader information on Local School Council meetings. The councils, which are made up of educators, parents, and community representatives, have the authority to hire and evaluate principals and approve school budgets and improvement plans.
Under the city’s current plan, students would work in pods of 15, and alternate days in the classroom. Parents and school employees would wear masks at all times. Students would be required to wear them outside the classroom.
“If you’re not wearing a mask, you’re doing it wrong. You have to wear a mask,” Pritzker said. “If I told you you could take a pill that would reduce the likelihood of you getting COVID-19 by 80 percent wouldn’t you do it?”
One of the audits reviewed Tuesday by the Illinois Legislative Audit Commission was of DCFS for several fiscal years up to 2017. Among other shortcomings, it wasn’t clear if services were provided in nearly half of the indicated investigations reviewed in the audit.
In a statement Wednesday, IDES said that program was designed hastily as the COVID-19 crisis was unfolding and that it did not include adequate safeguards to prevent abuse. That’s because the program is designed for people who don’t have an employer.
Shortly after the charges against ComEd were made public, FBI agents delivered a grand jury subpoena to Madigan’s capitol office. Included in the list of requested documents is a request for records about Michael R. Zalewski and any efforts to help him or his family members get jobs or payments. His daughter-in-law, Carrie Zalewski, was appointed as head of the Illinois Commerce Commission in April 2019 after Madigan’s repeated recommendation.
The data shows that 29 of those 62 Chicago-area expressway shootings occurred during the states’ Stay at Home Order, which was announced on April 23 and continued through the end of May. During that time, an Illinois State Police spokesperson explained, traffic was “sparse,” making it easier for suspects to get away.
Comment: It’s about time. See our article here from earlier this week on how BLM, which is violent, Marxist and antisemetic, is duping supporters.
“Just because foreclosures are way down does not mean that everything is hunky dory.”
In order to drive a taxi in Chicago, you need a city-issued medallion. And this time last year there were 3,433 active medallions. About half of the city’s 7,000 taxis were on the road. Currently, the number has fallen to 648 with 2,151 medallions surrendered to the city…medallion prices are tumbling too. They now trade for around $25,000. That is down from $290,000 in 2015.
“Since Memorial day an average of over 20 people have been shot on a daily basis. Over 205 souls have been murdered and well over 900 have been shot. One would think after facing that kind of mayhem any leader would gladly accept any help offered even if it was only Barney Fife himself.”

The amended proposal adds heavier protections for low-income renters, and puts to rest a year-long feud between the two leaders over how to protect residents from potential displacement spurred by the Obama Presidential Center.
The Soros-funded prosecutors, not the mayors, are the ones who help release the violent on little or no bond. In Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, St. Louis, and elsewhere, it is the mayors who are the faces of their cities, not the prosecutors.
In Democratic Chicago, for example, the Soros prosecutor is Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. In her 2020 campaign, she reportedly received at least $2 million from a Soros backed political action committee.
