Activists anxiously await air monitors, hope Chicago isn’t backsliding on pollution promises – Chicago Tribune*

But even though the air monitors have arrived, the city doesn’t expect to finish installing them for another year. Meanwhile, community members who are supposed to help operate the network and disseminate the findings are being asked to work for free when funding runs out. It left even supporters of Mayor Brandon Johnson wondering if he’s sidelining his promise for an environmental justice crusade.

Much of Illinois Chafes Under Chicago’s, Governor’s Support for Migrants – Breitbart

The city of Rosemont passed an ordinance in December 2023 to prevent the use of local hotels to house illegals. Several other suburbs, including Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village, passed similar ordinances that would fine hotels for allowing guests to stay longer than 60 days. And Grundy officials held a 2020 referendum on migration and found 64 percent of voters were wary of sanctuary laws. This suspicion was validated when Chicago began sending busses of illegals into their area and just let them off without any plans and no communication with Grundy officials.

Column: Madigan: The political giant who crashed and burned – Champaign News-Gazette

Jim Dey: “Madigan was disciplined, hardworking, tenacious and utterly ruthless in building his hugely effective legislative and political organization. He also was creative. What other politician would use favor-seeking private entities — ComEd and AT&T-Illinois — as a source of no-show patronage jobs for his political loyalists? That ploy worked until it didn’t. That’s why Madigan was all-powerful until he wasn’t.”

Commentary: Illinois leaders should stop pushing for big government, start helping small businesses – Daily Herald*

Matt Paprocki, of the Illinois Policy Institute: “Workers are struggling because private businesses are struggling. The only industry not struggling? The government. Illinois state government is the single-largest employer in the state, and the federal government is the second largest. Taxpayers and businesses, on the other hand, are subjected to skyrocketing property taxes and state tax burdens to cover the growing number of state employees and worsening pension crisis. It’s time lawmakers made it easier for businesses to operate in Illinois.”

John Kass: Boss Madigan Goes Down

“These were the fetid nutrients of the bi-partisan Combine. The corrupt journos. The Tribune was the Combine’s flagship paper, but the Sun Times had them too. And a fat drunken blogger in Springfield who also took care of Combine needs. This was deeply offensive to me. Even more so because of their supposed “journalistic oaths” that they took and prattled on and on about. Once there were Republican and Democrat water boys and girls, but as the partisanship changed, so did they, carrying water for Soros Marxists and corporate pimps with the same pail. And they put their mouth on

A Venezuelan migrant with two outstanding arrest warrants for failing to appear in court for two pending felony cases in the Chicago area has surfaced in Ohio. And by “surfaced,” we mean he’s been sent to prison in Ohio for shoplifting merchandise worth more than $10,000 from a Kohl’s in suburban Toledo. The suspect has failed to appear in two other local cases that are now closed, because prosecutors dropped the cases: an August 2023 misdemeanor battery case that he failed to appear for twice and a September 2024 retail theft in River Forest.
