People who can’t read beyond 4th grade level tend to also never challenge their politicians’ actions and non-actions. Looks like a win for Chicago Machine.

We’ve “Beer and Circus” mentality of governance here, conditions similar to Decline of Roman Empire: free “beer”, meaning welfare subsidies that eliminate need for household earned-income, free “circus”, meaning cheap streaming internet entertainment, celebrance of Drill Music and gangbanger street-culture, welcoming tolerance of incivility and street-crime, criminal discharge of shop-lifting and looting, and societal acceptance of pervasive illiteracy and general slothfulness.

Lori Lighthead is satisfied with a 27% reading proficiency? I guess when your whole approach to life is to gear everything to the lowest common denominator instead of striving for excellence, This make perfect sense!

CPS teacher here…. CPS graduated everybody last year.. even those with 5% attendance and a 0.0% grade average, with the “recommendation” that they attend summer remediation. HA! However, please don’t think this is anything new. The name of the game for years has been “cook the books” – pressure from each level of bureaucracy on the principals to “see what you can do” about lowering failure rates, which then filters down to us. When they can’t meet expectations, just lower the expectations, until there are none left.

That’s the way it works almost everywhere in education and gonpcernment more generally. The school administrators have no tenure rights in the same way teachers do and can be fired at will unless the local contracts provide an alternative. So, the news that gets out to the public by any administor always has to be good news or bad news made to sound as good news lest any such higher paid administrator lose his/her position or higher pay status. “News” by obfuscation is the standard operating procedure since the unwritten underlying message to the public always is “make no waves”… Read more »

Here in Maryland, we have dysfunctional so-called leaders of Baltimore city doing the same horrifically bad job. Crime, unemployment, and illegals coming here are all up, graduation rates are down and standardized test scores are atrocious. And no one ever proposes the obvious ways to improve the catastrophes…..not city council, mayor, or governor.
Balto City has 13 high schools (out of about 20), where NOT ONE STUDENT tests at grade level. Can’t make this stuff up. Oh……and our media’s silent.

We are living in the legacy of the Kennedy/LBJ administrations assorted giveaway programs, allowing government employee unions and that monumental immigration act. To think without Chicago Illinois election shennagigans the mentioned administrations would not have been elected. Chicago is the cesspool of America; has been and always will be.

This is coming to a school near you as reading, writing and arithmetic are replaced with social justice and critical race theory classes across the State by laws imposed by the Illinois Democrats.
Simply saying just what it is.
