Chicago Tribune parrots Pritzker’s ‘right wing’ claims about critics of Gotion Chinese battery plant – Wirepoints Quickpoint

Search the Chicago Tribune’s site for “far right” and “right wing” and you will find a total of 5,465 articles. Search “far left” and “left wing” and you will find less than half that — only 2,477.

They were at it again Wednesday.

A front page Tribune story is headlined, “Manteno EV battery plant promises 2,600 jobs. But far-right legislators are stoking fears over Chinese influence.”

Many Manteno, Illinois residents have expressed anger over the lack of information they’ve been given. So, the Tribune says, “That has provided an opening for far-right Republicans, struggling for relevancy in a blue state, to fill the void by using the specter of communist infiltration fueled by state tax dollars to stoke fears about the project. Those fears have gained traction among some residents.”

It’s routine tactic of today’s progressive news outlets and politicians to dismiss legitimate claims they don’t like as “right wing” or “far right.” In the Tribune’s case, that’s reflected in the numbers above. On Gotion, the Tribune was echoing Gov. JB Pritzker’s express refusal to answer any objections to the Gotion project, resorting only to labeling by dismissing all critics as “xenophobes” and “MAGA Republicans.”

In truth, a firestorm of controversy about Gotion’s nearly identical project in Michigan was underway long before Pritzker announced Gotion’s Illinois project. And Michigan critics have been bipartisan. Read, “Why Democrats joined Republicans opposing money for a controversial Big Rapids battery plant.” That’s the headline in a Michigan Live column earlier this year.

“The final hurdle for Michigan’s state approval was a vote in the Senate’s appropriation Committee, and the “10-9 committee vote underscores a growing, bipartisan discomfort with promoting companies with ties to China and with the state’s incentive system, with three Democrats…joining the six Republicans on the committee in opposing the Gotion deal,” as The Michigan Bridge reported. [Emphasis added.]

Yes, the very conservative Freedom Caucus has led Gotion criticism when it comes to Illinois legislators. Good for them and shame on others, in both parties, who haven’t joined them. The project, which will cost only $2 billion, includes $8 billion of taxpayer handouts to the Chinese company that will own it — a company with clear links to the Chinese Communist Party.

Manteno residents opposing the Gotion project

But give credit to Illinois media for unity. Articles about Gotion by syndicated columnist Rich Miller and Greg Hinz at Crain’s used much the same tactic and were even worse than the Tribune’s.

Wirepoints is collecting its articles on Gotion here. The project is monumentally irresponsible, wasteful and dangerous, which is why Manteno residents don’t want it.

The other aggravation from the Tribune is that every time they write about the migrants, they always harp on Abbott, Abbott, right wing Abbott. Abbott is not the only one sending them, Denver is, and Catholic Charities of San Antonio is flying them in with FEMA money. Abbott did not open the border, Biden did, and some Texas towns get as many in a day as Chicago has total. Were they all supposed to stay in Texas? But Biden, Pritzker, and Johnson originally laid out the welcome mat saying Chicago is a town of immigrants, a sanctuary city. Again, the… Read more »

And who is surprised that a Leftist rag like the Tribune would parrot what round boy says?

We’ve all seen and heard about the financial troubles of the Tribune and Sun Times. For years it has been layoffs and last minute financial rescues to keep them afloat. There is no business model that supports anyone, or any business, investing in either of these two so called “news” sources. So why is it they continue to exist? Because the leftists feel they need them.

“includes $8 billion of taxpayer handouts to the Chinese company that will own it — a company with clear links to the Chinese Communist Party.”

Please publish your evidence of this. Otherwise, this is hearsay and, if no factual evidence is shown, this could potentially lead to a defamation lawsuit.

I believe that evidence was published right here with proper links a week or so ago. Scroll down. There will be no “defamation lawsuit” – so you can put on that right now.

Rich Miller?? Is that you?? Parroting Pritzker and threatening a lawsuit with JB’s massively unconstitutional new pet state law designed to silence any opposition?

I think you have hit that nail right on the head as there was a pretty good indication on another article that Richie monitors this site. My thoughts are with Madigan gone Richie has extra time on his hands as many of his sources of gossip have dried up or are now irrelevant.

The Chicago Tribune, like many newspapers, has big excuses for their lack of readership. They really think people don’t want to read a paper version anymore, they want to get their paper on line. Not true, wouldn’t make any difference. They could publish their trash news and opinions on gold bars and still no one would want to purchase or read it. But it’s much easier to blame the “stupid” subscribers than the “stupid” owners and writers.

We waited every night until my dad brought the paper home from work. We devoured it. Bought a house, waited every morning on the driveway for the carrier. Spent Sundays slowly reading every section. Now, the Trib is begging for and giving away subscriptions. Do they have any clue why readers are disgusted with them? Whatever happened to the standards of objectivity their great writers once had?

Not sure but writers like Kass along with Kristen McQueary were very good. The ministry of truth basically refuses to publish their opinions and the truth does die in darkness. The Marxists started quietly initially, and like they do now they don’t show at first what they really are. Later their editors start to shape the narrative and eventually you see their true agenda. No one is left at the paper to challenge this narrative so the paper is a one sided Pravda Sheet for the State. No where was this more evident then during Trump and COVID. I read… Read more »

Considering that many in Illinois refer to the Tribune as their source of news it becomes, even to me, understandable why many Illinois’ voters vote the way they do.

I don’t know anybody that reads it. Only a small amount of people voted in the last election.

Agreed David. All the major news outlets came out against amendment 1 and yet it still won. The days of local newspapers swaying elections are long gone.

Did the Tribune interview any of the Manteno residents who packed the hearings? Did they provide any of the opposing arguments other than saying xenophobia, anti CCP, or far right extremists? Isn’t there another side, Tribune, or do you just generalize all opponents as MAGA nuts?

The Daily Caller site is always going to be ignored by the press due to how it is considered an opinion site and not a news site. This doesnt mean it’s numbers dont match your own but it will never be considered a mainstream media site.

Again credit to Wirepoints for running the story. Zero journalism. Bozo journalism but made for low IQ readers to digest. Fear is an important element in the communist (Democrats) playbook. Create a crisis to solve the crisis. Evil MAGA followers tells you more about the reading audience and TV audience in Illinois. Voters are free to rise up and elect an alternative! 🤣

Like the majority of MSM, the Tribune is mostly committed to cheerleading for the Left. The wall of lies and breathless parroting of Pritzgers/ Johnson’s newspeak and name calling, along with dubious facts and figures, that, they grind out on a daily basis makes them fit only for crossword puzzle working and lining a bird cage.

“Republicans pounce” is how the media frames any sort of pushback on questionable Democratic policies. It’s a tired cliche.

Everyone reading this comment, understand that evil exists in this world and Illinois consistently chooses evil. Evil controls the media. Evil controls the state government. Evil controls the schools. What the heck are you doing living there and supporting them with your taxes? How long before Illinois funnels state tax dollars to Russia thru some clever scheme? (Maybe it already does.) What will it take for you to take a stand, when they support Hamas? You can’t defeat the evil in Illinois at the voting booth. That leaves one option, leaving and going to a state where voting against evil… Read more »

The once much vaunted WaPo is really going down the tubes – I was raised on the Sunday edition which required it seemed a pickup to deliver. WaPo even built a paper plant to feed it’s presses. In addition to the Richmond Times-Dispatch and NYT’s, the whole family after church on Sunday would spend hours just reading the papers. It was self-education in many respects. Times have really changed, and I fear not for the better. In IL I have never seen so much ‘state propaganda’ in the media – It is a Pravda-like operation.

You have to be a total moron or a leftist idealogue to not understand that the years of China bribing Joe Biden is now being paid off. Biden halts our domestic fossil fuel production while pushing electric vehicles, then halts our domestic mining of rare earth minerals necessary for electric vehicle battery production, all the while his know-nothing kid “helps” the Chinese buy up all the rare earth mining around the world.

Dimwits like Fat Fredo just join in because they don’t know any better.

“Biden halts our domestic fossil fuel production” This is what they want you to believe, and I also believed it was true until recently. But this not true, Biden is not declaring a war on oil. America is producing more fossil fuels than ever and we are now the world’s largest producer of fossil fuels. It’s absolutely true. A ‘war on American energy’? So why is oil production near record highs? https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/03/biden-fossil-fuels-republicans-energy-war-record/ No need to click the link, the point is that even WaPo recognizes the lie being told, and they’re angry we haven’t cut fossil fuel production in favor… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
