Editorial: Why Illinois is aging faster than the rest of the country – Chicago Tribune/Yahoo

"A dwindling youth population means shrinking potential — not just economically, but in civic energy, creativity and community life. That’s bad news for a state that depends on young people to power its workforce and its future."

One of the reasons young people leave IL is because of IL’s abusive policies for its residents. It’s especially bad for IL when the young people are or will become high-income earners. It seems for too many IL pols that greed dominates their decision-making abilities.

Wow the Trib actually said something about the failures going on. They don’t usually point out problems because they don’t want to look racist

Why would young families and youth stay in IL? Unless a person is a member of of a special interest group or an illegal, IL does not care. If you a not a member of the above groups, your only right is to be taxed to support them.

It’s nice to see the Tribune finally awakening to the consequences of decades of disastrous policies of its endorsed politicians. I feared I wouldn’t live to see the day. In addition to discouraging job creation with high taxes and politically motivated regulations, however, Springfield discourages young families by reversing course on school choice. While most other states attract schoolchildren and parents with alternatives to zoned public schools, Springfield’s politicians prefer to coddle teacher unions and undermine academic achievement. Illinois’ neighbors are eating its lunch and leaving it with the bill.
