As state lawmakers stall on data center rules, Illinois cities and counties step in to fill the void – Chicago Tribune/Yahoo

So far, at least six counties and nine cities in Illinois have approved data center moratoriums or regulations. Advocates and local officials worry data centers will strain the electrical grid and deplete Lake Michigan and rural well water faster than rain, runoff and groundwater can replenish them.

You have seen the pump, now get ready for the dump. “You don’t hold the asset, you hold a claim. Most people’s 401k’s, pensions, and brokerage accounts aren’t held in their name. They’re held in street name at DTCC/Cede & Co. That means you’re a beneficial owner with a contract claim, not the legal owner of the stock or bond. Aren’t these technological terrors going to be outmoded the day they are built as are all cell phones, laptops and desktop computers? What happens to these overstuffed HAL9000 processors then?

Illinois does not have right to give away more than its pre allocated Lake Michigan water according to a US Supreme Court case – there are Great Lakes agreements protecting the water and Illinois cannot choose to ignore them as it deems convenient. So all these people thinking data centers are the answer to chronic unemployment and government overspending should reassess their support when their faucets have no water coming out.
