Chicagoans are getting fed up with the city’s teachers union – George Will

"The Chicago Teachers Union’s cupidity in enriching itself, and the dismal results of Chicago’s public schools, have drained the public’s reservoir of goodwill. Among the reasons for the CTU’s downfall is a school named for someone who, as a slave, taught himself to read — a skill poorly imparted by Chicago teachers, when they teach."

The CTU is not a union.

As Wirepoints has documented most of da union dues go to political activism!!

The CTU’s major responsibility is to be responsive to its workers’ perceived benefit and workplace grievances rather than the students or parents who may well have a different viewpoint. It’s the same general concept in businesses, isn’t it? Those unions are not primarily representing their customers or the public at large either and, instead, go to those with the power more directly to do so, the business owners’ reps. Similarly CTU does what’s needed to influence the political people who can most directly benefit the CTU members, the politicians actors who matter most in bringing about the desired changes. It’s… Read more »

Of course you know that private sector unions cannot buy votes to determine who represents management in negotiations, right?

Which one of these is not like the other? I remember when even Muppets could teach kids to read.

I no make da rules nor all the circumstances evolving from them. You always have to go to “war” with what you have rather than all the circumstances you wish were better. Hire some Muppets if you can entice them to do your bidding without complaint and at your idea of fair compensation. People are always more problematical, and the times forever are changing as well. What was and what is are never quite the same—hallelujah or mostly disgusting as many will be quick to assert depending upon their own set of priorities.

Alas, we are not free to hire Muppets if we wanted to do so. Did you forget your beloved IL Constitution?

You don’t make the rules. The public unions make the rules.

The CTU is like a mafia, they force the taxpayers to pay or else.

And in accordance with the DEI mandates of many colleges, many companies, many public service jobs, those failures who can’t read, write or do simple arithmetic will be admitted into colleges, be hired and eventually promoted by DEI enriched companies and become leaders in government agencies, police departments, fire departments, teachers (the blind leading the blind) and other sensitive positions. The death knell is ringing.

And the faithful democrat voters of Chicago will continue to vote for the same people responsible for the soon to be collapse of the city. Ya can’t fix stupid.

Will lays out the failed CPS/CTU policies in a concise manner with an economy of words that all the Marxist bloviating from Gates and her lap dog Johnson can’t explain away by blaming racism, Trump, Richard Nixon or anyone else.

IPI and Wirepoints “complain” forcefully and articulately (as does George Will). But their readers are outnumbered JUST BY public employees. So “no” to Wally’s suggestions of demonstrations and marches. Entrenched power of adherents to the Chicago Way block all Illinois recourse to reason and local law. Something “like” Puerto Rico” at the Federal level seems the only way to arrest the Illinois Pandemic from spreading. Limited time remains for conservative control of the Federal system.

Only if you are able to relocate and read this stuff online. Good luck.

Chicagoans are like Rip Van Winkle asleep at the wheel for the last 20 years.

If a sports team does bad you change the coach, the gm. The fans call for it. If the students do bad the teachers ( coaches) get more money. There seems to be a huge disconnect here.

I think you got a thumbs down from someone who thought that Robin Ventura was a great coach for the White Sox.

Sounds good, but where’s the evidence? No protests, no demonstrations and BJ and CTU pretty sure all their candidates will be elected. Don’t see any parents complaining. Typical apathy by Chicago residents.
