“Why do we pay property taxes anyway?”Because the AFSCME, SEIU, IFT and other Public Employee Union members need to get paid, and then some of said payments go back as Donations to the Democrats.
And in the case of the CTU, they indoctrinate the “students” into becoming future Democrats, while wasting money on “ghost schools” that barely have any students so that those CTU positions aren’t eliminated.

The article says, “There are some complications to this equation because most properties in Illinois are assessed at one-third of their fair market value. In Cook County, commercial properties are assessed at 25% of market value and residential properties at 10%.” Can you explain why this is? I always wondered why my brother’s home in Chicago, of a similar market value to mine in Lake County, had property taxes much, much lower than mine. I guess this is the reason.

Cook County suburbs should pay no property taxes, since most of it goes to Chicago almost non existent heath care or immunization clinics in the suburbs. Guaranteed income to Chicago residents only.

This article is not even worth the time to read. It was lifted directly from a textbook where citizens pay taxes in anticipation of value received in the form of services from their municipalities.
I thought for a moment someone in the media actually wrote an article questioning why Illinoisans pay taxes when they are lucky if they receive services worth even 10% of what they pay in. What a joke this state is. Counting the days to my escape.
Escape to Florida like I did.The state lawmakers vote later this year to decide whether or not to eliminate property taxes on homestead properties except for the portion that funds local schools. If It passes, it needs 60% voter approval in November for it to take effect in 2027. Guess how I’m voting.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
