Illinois may be in line for nearly $14 billion in federal help for state and local government – Quicktake

President-elect Joe Biden on Friday provided some details on his proposed $1.9 trillion pandemic relief bill, called The American Rescue Plan. It includes $350 billion for state and local governments.

The sharing formula is not yet available, but if Illinois got its proportionate share based on population it would receive about $13.6 billion for its state and local governments.

It will be interesting to see how different states react to the total when the bill is negotiated in Congress. Some states need little, if anything. For example, Wisconsin recently reported that it ended its 2020 fiscal year with a surplus, even while contributing substantially to its rainy day fund. In November, however, Illinois estimated its budget hole at about $8 billion for this year and next.

We do not yet know what the sharing arrangement would be within Illinois between the state and its municipalities, which are also in financial distress. Nor do we know the full impact on local governments from COVID-19. Chicago has been particularly evasive about publishing information that would allow for an objective assessment.

More details on what’s in the Biden proposal are here.

The problem is that every internet oligarch from his internet provider, to host, to email provider and on will use his failure to prevent ‘disinformation’ on his website as reason to shut him down.

Let’s be honest here, Wirepoint’s days are numbered on US based servers. This is a small US based conservative website and it will be bullied of existence, comments or no comments.

This is inevitable.

“Wirepoint’s days are numbered on US based servers.” I think Wirepoints will be just fine. They collect various political articles and allow people to make comments and offer ideas. When commenters bring up throwing out duly elected officials including President Biden, he points out that promoting insurrection is wrong and won’t be tolerated on his site. As far as censoring, this site has consistently allowed plenty of delusional commenters to drone on and on about the election being stolen. I have not once witness him censor those comments. I guess he draws the line at violently overthrowing the government. I… Read more »

The Truth Hurts, there is currently a Great Purge underway, in case you have not noticed. All sites not progressive enough are at risk of being deemed ‘disinformation’ and being deplatformed. It doesn’t matter where he draws the line to censor comments, the fact that this website is ‘disinformation’ in the eyes of our enemies is enough. JB has said in a press conference that Wirepoints, IIRC, doesn’t know what it is talking about, or something similar to this. Hence, disinformation. His takes on coronavirus and covid-19 would already have him banned off facebook, twitter and every other major sites,… Read more »

“Comments sections on the federalist, american thinker, and many other sites have been removed under threat of deflatforming.” Why do you think that is? It’s not the content they provide. Those sites along with this one don’t promote insurrection but some of the wacky commenters have. If the comment section gets taken over by nut jobs then the owner of the site is only left with massive moderation or shutting down the comments. After awhile it’s not worth the liability. I’m glad WP allows comments but over the last 6 months I’ve watched the quality of comments decline into name… Read more »

” Those sites along with this one don’t promote insurrection but some of the wacky commenters have. ” You’re changing the subject and missing the point. This site also challenges the official Covid-19 narratives, and if it were a social media channel, it would be banned from facebook, youtube and twitter, along with the infrastructure. It’s a matter of time before this site gets on the radar of some silicon valley flunkie (likely via a bureaucrat in JB’s office who is already aware of it) and good bye wirepoints. As for Trump, McConnell just lost us the senate. And now… Read more »

I didn’t change the subject at all. The original post was about censoring comments on THIS site. I’ve addressed why I believe that needs to be done when comments turn into overthrowing the US Government. I was never talking about why other sites stopped allowing COVID disagreements or election fraud allegations. My comments pertained to the original thread as to why insurrection won’t be tolerated. You then changed the subject into all the other private business that don’t want to allow certain forms of speech. I don’t agree with that but unless the GOP is in support of turning it… Read more »

Amusingly, that amount of money is nowhere near enough to what Illinois needs.

I am assuming 2021 will be the year of half-assed bailouts. Should be fun seeing the money still run off even after a Democratic “dream” of having House, Senate, and White House.

I have been saying the same thing as Mary Pat and River. No matter the amount (huge amounts are impossible for the Fed balance sheet) it will not matter. Give them $20 billion – then find out quickly how they burn through it and it’s definitely over for every party involved – and it will not have made any difference. The jig is up. They are in a no win situation, actually. They are delusional so they think they won something with the 2020 cheating so they are about to bury themselves for good. But the Uniparty Republicans have to… Read more »

Apparently he’s assuming the military will immediately into spring into action to save Trump’s presidency. He’s dealing in Fantasyland even with his “expert” friends who advise likewise. Have we no expectation that bureaucrats of all stripe–civilian or military–are not experts at dithering? In the extremely low likelihood that Trump would give an order they consider idiotic they will find ways to delay or react minimally and make it seem reasonable.

Some in the media agree from their assertion that Pres. Trump and/or his key appointees have placed more people than is usual during the last few months in key bureauctratic positions even at the lower levels. Their Trump-friendly political views is expected to extend the Trump era’s persuasive effects in national government beyond the time more commonly seen in past administrations. Trump’s views in the functioning of government at the worker-bee level will be with us for some time yet as a result.

Relax – Joe wants $350 billion but that’s probably not going to happen. It will be some lesser amount, and while it is repugnant, it won’t really move the needle for the worst fiscal state in the Union.

Now it seems to make sense why riots took place in opportunity zones that have a central bank. Property values on the magnificent mile (soon to be the insignificant mile) will drop and later be picked up at bargain prices. The entire article is good and makes you think on why everything went haywire so quickly. Comments there are good. P.S. A good article at Mercola on smart toilets. Remember the George H.W. Bush speech on Sept 11,1990 (the other Sept 11th) about the New World Order aka Fifth Objective. The speech was given before a joint session on Congress which he describes HIS vision of a New World Order during the Gulf War Crisis. Falling into place like having only two dominoes.

Printing this many dollars (2T) is more than federal individual income taxes (1.3T) plus corporate profit taxes (0.2T), and is bound to increase the inflation rate which is already here in food prices. Restaurants with high food prices and new $15/hr minimum is bound to crush many or most that MIGHT recover after China virus lockdowns are withdrawn. This cannot end well, but invest wisely, have inflation hedges going NOW…..gold IAU fund, bitcoin fund GBTC, and commodity index fund GSG, to offset stock market risk. Read a unique article that stated that no one has been inside Ft. Knox since the 70’s. The reported value of the Gold in there has stayed the same never increased or decreased. Without gold backing the dollar, the dollar will fail and we will be in another depression. You’re sort of admitting that there’s not enuf gold to backup the $. In fact, gold has NOT “backed” up the $ for a LONG time. Dollar is just another fiat currency that can be printed and has of course for many years. When it’s “printed”, NO ONE has to “pay those bills”. It’s not a “scam”…..it is legal for federal govt to print money and disburse it out in manner Congress/Prez decides. My point was that this amount of printing is GINORMOUS and will probably add to inflation — maybe not, but other factors WILL…….such as the new whackos… Read more »

Yes but with all the money printing we’ve already had the inflation of which you speak. Right now they are printing money to stop deflation, as crazy as that sounds. But what is happening is that virtually every asset or product in the world has undergone inflation over the last few decades. Stocks, highest ever. Home prices, highest ever. Vacation homes, completely unaffordable. Higher education increases at 3x the ‘regular’ rate of inflation. Health care is unaffordable. Cars, average new car price is $40,000, highest ever. Used cars are also priced highest ever. Commercial real estate? was exploding up until… Read more »

Isn’t most of it either fiat currency or intangible assets whose value seems to inflate with the currency supply? Real estate may be a tangible asset but at the same time it’s a taxable asset — non-liquid, immovable and nebulously valued. We might all be more secure filling our IRAs with canned tuna and toilet paper. Now THAT’S symbiotic.

Stocks aren’t part of CPI core inflation. And just because inflation has occurred in past few years, although fairly modestly, I believe inflation will ramp up with this egregious printing and spending, AND with energy costs that the Dems are definitely going to cause to ramp up. Which then, adds to food costs. Buying new cars is less imp because people aren’t commuting as much, and anyway ppl can buy a $15k 2-yr old car if they want, I did, I don’t like to waste dough. My point is/was that we need to be cautious in equities, not too high %, and smart investors who previously hedged inflation with gold, are now moving at least some of it to bitcoin GBTC. Great article yesterday on blockworks . com, showing that improved results in portfolios with 3% to 5% position with btc. We’ve fairly consistently been at 5% to 10% of GBTC, and 5% gold, and the results have been astounding. CHEERS MATE !!

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore.
