Much of the routine trade and investment between China and America is entirely appropriate and in America’s interest. But inserting the Chinese Communist Party into America’s pay-to-play system and its economic development strategy isn’t just crossing a line. It’s a leap into an abyss of stupidity.
These types of skill-devoid, ‘welcome to Starbucks’ majors should be exempt from public funding. These majors are educational malpractice, preying upon doe-eyed students as they gain knowledge with no use or value in the real world. Fine Arts majors are similarly jobless, but not necessarily skill-devoid, as one could sculpt, paint, or play an instrument. Out in the real world, though, those a called ‘hobbies’.
Beyond the obvious lack of value and return on investment for these types of degrees, is the cost to deliver them. These state funded schools continue to retain the teaching staff and admin to offer these degrees and cannot possibly cover the cost of delivering. Factoring in the salaries, benefits, pension costs for all the staff…these useless degree programs are underwater all the time. There is no cost/benefit decision making going on at these state schools…they just go back to the tax payer well for mo-mony. Pathetic.
These programs are designed for benefit of the professors and the administrators. They don’t exists for the students because there are none. This is nothing more than a grift for progressive-minded academics to live the high life off of taxpayers expense. This is the USAID of Illinois politics.
Sure, all these degrees that have no potential success or earnings in the real world. And students probably taking out loans for these useless degrees, and then taking masters programs after that.
