These very logical points have historically been foundational to building and maintaining a vibrant community / neighborhoods throughout the US. Unfortunately, they have been totally abandon by Democrats, and the results speak for themselves. They reap what they sowed.
Good analysis. There are black South and West Side neighborhoods that are undesirable due to crime. But I’d add that the author dances around the illegal immigration issue. Immigrants congregate in low-income communities and so-called affordable housing, which in turn drives out nearly every other demographic. What used to be affordable housing for young couples, seniors, and working-class families has become segregated neighborhoods exclusively occupied by various racial demographics. There are entire apartment complexes in Rolling Meadows occupied by Hispanics—often two families in a two-bedroom apartment. I understand what you’re saying, however statistically overall crime has been dropping yet reinvestment has been slow. I think the hold up is more in Chicago progressive (and corrupt) politics that hinder growth.
It’s true that murder has been dropping. So now in the violent areas, only 7 people are killed per month instead of the previous 10. Property crimes are not dropping, they are being reported less.
It’s no wonder investment is not increasing. “Less bad than before” is not a strong inducement.
