Where’s the Omelet? Black Lives Matter Chicago Answers George Orwell’s Question – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

“You can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs.” In George Orwell’s day — the 1930s — that’s what supporters of violent, Marxist revolution often said in justification.

Orwell, the stunningly prescient author of Nineteen Eighty-Four, had a simple response: “Where’s the omelet?”

An honest look at the omelet offered by Black Lives Matter is long overdue, particularly for BLM Chicago. What do they want? Do its supporters and apologists know?

Where’s their omelet?

BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullers

In an interview about Black Lives Matter, its national co-founder Patrisse Cullors said, “We actually do have an ideological frame. “Myself and Alicia [Alicia Garza, another co-founder] in particular are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists.”

Chicago BLMers are likewise trained.

Watch the video meeting they hosted last week titled, “Black Abolitionist Huddle: On How We Win Police Abolition.” You will see that many of them are very fluent with Marxist rhetoric, particularly the modern version focused on toppling “late stage capitalism.”

On Twitter, BLM Chicago said this, which you could imagine coming from a reincarnated, woke, twenty-something Vladimir Lenin:

Stay in the streets! The system is throwing every diversionary and de-mobilizing tactic at us. We are fighting to end policing and prisons as a system which necessitates fighting white supremacist capitalist heteropatriarchial imperialism. Vet your comrades and stay focused.

That BLM Chicago video and its other statements should also put to bed lingering spin that its demand to defund police actually means just reimagining how policing works and partial redirection of resources.

They mean abolish the police. That’s their word for it.

Abolish prisons, too. Here’s their separate post on that.

Don’t stop there. The entire Department of Corrections must end. On Twitter, BLM Chicago said,

We say #DefundThePolice and #DefundDepOfCorrections because they work in tandem. The rise of mass incarceration occurred alongside the rise of militarized and mass policing. They must be abolished as a system.

What they don’t say is perhaps more important than what they say. There’s no condemnation of violence. With BLM graffiti covering so much of Chicago, there’s no doubt many members and supporters participated in the vandalism.

BLM’s evolution with Marxism was described nicely by The Federalist in 2016, which showed how parts of BLM’s platform read like they were lifted straight from the pages of Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto. BLM faded in popularity around then and politicians began to shy away from mentioning it, mostly because of its controversial positions like that.

BLM nevertheless became mainstream just in the past couple months. It’s easy to find BLM yard signs and seemingly reasonable people who have marched with BLMers or carried its signs.

I know some of the apologists and supporters, and you may, too. Some marched. Some are friends. They are peaceful and principled just like most protesters were, genuinely fed up with racial inequality and police misconduct.

But they, too, must answer Orwell’s question. Where’s the omelet? More precisely, what is the omelet they think BLM hopes to serve up? Why the indifference to support for a violent, Marxist revolution and the anarchy of abolishing police and prisons?

The least charitable explanations are that they are just foolish or uninformed – unaware of what BLM is about. Others understand fully and approve. Those explanations do account for some of BLM’s support.

A more charitable explanation probably covers most who embrace BLM, which is that they seek only to make a statement about police misconduct and racial justice, and they might point to some of BLM’s other deeds, like food banks.

“Black Lives Matter” is also just a phrase, they might say might say; never mind the organization. And the organization has many chapters that aren’t all singing the same tune. They might point to BLM’s own Facebook page that says, “This group is one of many iterations of #BlackLivesMatter: a movement, a rebellion, an affirmation, an intervention… and so much more.”

But that murkiness about phrasing, organization and diffused power is precisely what makes BLM dangerous. It allows peaceful protesters to be used as pawns who carry their signs and draw law enforcement away from rioters. It sucks in the well-intentioned but gullible, especially the young. Most importantly, its disbursed leadership and the vague distinction from an ambiguous phrase are the perfect cocktail for intoxicating society into the stupor essential for violent revolutions to succeed: chaos.

Let’s put that more bluntly: Well-intentioned BLM supporters are getting had. The majority of those either using the BLM phrase or supporting the organization are being used on behalf of a violent, chaotic insurrection.

They are also supporting, deliberately or not, the nonviolent but vicious mob now running unchallenged across America.

Though twice as many Americans and a majority of black Americans prefer the All Lives Matter phrase over Black Lives Matter, saying so can get you fired. Grant Napear,  a 32-year veteran TV voice of the Sacramento Kings, lost his job simply for saying, “All Lives Matter, every single one.”

Similar stories now fill the news.

The poll therefore only highlights the size of the potential purge by the mob.

Toppled statue of George Washington

Tear down a statue of George Washington or Thomas Jefferson and spray it with BLM? No problem. The police stand aside. But questioning BLM will put your career and reputation at risk.

Don’t expect BLM supporters to answer Orwell’s question about the omelet they think they’ll get from breaking some eggs because they see questions, too, as racist.

If you want Orwell’s answer, here it is, from Nineteen Eighty-Four:

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped.

One thing BLM says should be universally accepted, though for different reasons. “Silence is violence,” they say.

Indeed it is.

If the two-thirds of Americans who believe all lives matter continue to remain silent, expect more violence from many causes:

  • Racism will surge thanks to passions deliberately inflamed by identity politics. Poverty will soar as businesses flee Chicago and other big cities.
  • Shrunken budgets and emptied prisons will overload police departments.
  • The Ferguson effect will embolden thugs, initially, but bad apples in the police will later respond with a vengeance.
  • And trained Marxists will pursue their dream of violent insurrection.

There’s your omelet.

Here is the entire 10:56 video titled, “A Short History of Black Lives Matter” dated July 22, 2015 where Jared Ball of The Real News Network (TRNN) interviews Patrisse Cullors, a Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder.

BLM’s politics, goals and future are discussed.

NOT conspiracy theory, but Conspiracy FACT. Financing for all the BLM riots and looting. Would the youngsters risk bodily harm and jail in such an obvious coordinated manner without being paid??

Mark, you missed the most important aspect of this BLM story, Antifa.

Antifa is using BLM demonstrations as a tool to carry out their agenda of violence and destruction.

I watched it first hand in Atlanta the 1st week of June. Antifa members started everything as soon as it got dark. Then they continued all night long.

The poorly raised black kids were the looters who took advantage of the storefront windows shattered by the Antifa people. It was very well coordinated, and has been repeated in cookie cutter fashion in other cities.

But MSDNC and the Chicago Tribune told me that antifa doesn’t exist!

Antifa stands for anti-facist so there’s no way they could be up to no good like looting and rioting to advance their communist agenda!

BLM did this in Chicago not Antifa. Stop the bs. This was done by ghetto blacks. There was some Antifa not totally. Quit justifying the savage behavior of the feral predators on the west and south side because you like BLM and their lies. BLM is a terrorist organization.

I saw plenty of skinny white dudes and fat white women with blue hair in the crowds, at least downtown. That’s one of the problems with shutting down college campuses and sending all these unemployed 20 year olds back home to live with their parents. They get a little ancy living with mom & mom again, and want to go rage and protest.

“anti-facism” = means anti-capitalism, because they equate capitalism with facism.

think of Antifa as vanguars “enforcers” in a communist revolution.

this is academic, PoliSci200 level.

Totally agree. Terrorists & black supremacists. Can’t count how many times I’ve seen “kill whitey, “black power” & “tear down America” over the past few weeks. Americans of all colors need to fight and NOW.

It will be interesting to see what BLM does to movies and TV shows. The studios can make woke junk but they can’t make people watch them. CBS-Viacom is in deep financial trouble after viewers rejected ST Discovery and Picard. ST Strange New Worlds has been approved but it is still looking for funding from Amazon or Netflix. I’m surprised that nobody is complaining about the violence or lack of diversity in “The Last of Us pt 2”.

I could make the argument that Hollywood has helped create BLM and Antifa. Hunger Games, Joker, the dozens of stupid super hero movies from the last decade…

People cannot separate fiction from reality — there is a legitimate mental illness in this country. I think we need to offer everyone free testing for heavy metal poisoning and hormone imbalance.

Didn’t BLM just get $30,000,000.00 from George Soros? Its going to be a very warm summer.

It’s in South Dakota, where the people have guns and won’t stand around and watch monuments get destroyed. But buy a dvd of “North by Northwest” before it gets disclaimers attached to it.

That is a well known fact. It has got to stop and stop now or things will really get out of hand.

BLM is a domestic terrorist organization trying to overthrow a president. They are guilty of treason and must be punished. BLM Chicago does not have IRS approval. Why isn’t RINO Lausch doing anything? He needs to be fired immediately. He won’t charge BLM for hate crimes because Lori won’t allow him to.

Actually it is not a fact at all. What is a fact is that despite being only 13% of the population black make up 53% of homicides and 60% of armed robberies. Yet still, twice as many whites are killed by police as are the black criminal class.

You should have your keyboard taken away from you.

If they do, they will be fired and will have a hard time getting another job. What I’m amazed by is the gull these companies have to pretend like putting a cheap image and message on their website qualifies as something of substance. If all these companies are as truly liberal and progressive as they seem to be professing, they would be investing in black communities. I am personally boycotting as many of these companies as possible.

Case in point, Ben&Jerrys:

It’s impossible to boycott all companies but Ben & Jerry’s is a good start. They’re part of the multinational conglomerate Unilever and they’re as fake as any other fake brand out there.

I personally try to stick with the easy ones: Chicago Tribune, Amazon, most other media companies, BP (for their terrible oil spill in the Gulf years ago), and, I try to buy only CA products from the Inland Empire, avoiding the coasts, but apple makes a darn good iphone.

There are so many other companies to buy from other than amazon and they deliver almost as quickly. All you have to do is type their web address in the web browser. It’s super easy. I don’t know why anyone would voluntarily give Bezos another nickel. he’s the richest man in the world and there’s really no reason not to spend your money elsewhere. There’s the occasional product you can only find on Amazon, sure, but otherwise, the internet is full of retailers all looking to squeeze a dime or two away from Bezos.

I think Amazon is getting hit pretty hard right now. They removed the banner from their homepage and changed the lingo on their Prime video page from “Black Lives Matter” to “Amplifying Black stories”. I may buy some put options before their next earnings report.

This BLM omelet consists of 1/2 cup of misinformation, 3 tablespoons of victimology, 1/4th a stick of being unreasonable and a pinch of reverse racism. Blend thoroughly until riots, looting and murders happen. Remove from pan once socialism leads to communism.

I believe BLM is really just plain old racism disguised as Marxism. They hate white people (including the self-hating anti-racist whites) and want to take away everything the white people including their history, institutions and most importantly, their money. It’s really no different than the Nazi’s blaming Jews for all of Germany’s problems, and after shipping them off to camps, they looted their art, collectables and jewelry. Because that’s all the jews had in Germany, they had little power or institutional control, they just had money. I once saw a story on TV that said a lot of the missing… Read more »

There are many “fellow travelers” who know nothing about their BLM tour guides. However, one would think that university professors and administrators and a few journalists of the left and politicians and lawyers who have drunk the Kool-Aid HAVE to know. I expect those sorts believe that they’ll be able to “contain” matters once things have gone as far left as they are prepared to go. Jordan Peterson and other intellectuals, however, have spoken clearly and often about the trajectory we are on and have pointed out that there are tipping points in history where increasing momentum becomes too great… Read more »

Some of the vandals are well enough organized to hold their fire until after the election. If Biden and friends sweep than I fear enthusiasm for urban order will diminish. On the other hand if Trump wins and keeps the Senate not only the vibes will be bad. However, in that case, we MAY be able to rely on the military to maintain reasonable order in the cities. I question the ability of municipal police forces to function without some support from mayors and governors and many of them will be carrying water for BLM between now and November. It is all driven by class envy. Envy is what fuels these Marxist. It is proletariat versus the bourgeoisie. We used to live in a society where when we looked up to successful people and tried to work hard to replicate their outcomes. Now these people believe they are OWED what successful people have worked hard to get.

Excellently described. I have often wished in the last months that Jordan P. was able to make more content to reflect on these events; young people especially need such guidance. Great article Mark — unlike most outlets that touch only the surface level and frame everything in a binary way, you layout the different aspects that exist on a grey spectrum. But most of the media attention is going to the most extreme aspects because those are the ones that go viral and bring in more ad dollars. And viral coverage fuels the underlying movement (whatever that movement may be). 1 more comment: As a white man, I have always been told that I will never understand what its like to be black in America. If that’s true and if… Read more »

What would make this revolution more powerful:
False adversarial narratives should be disrupted.
This is good vs. evil, but the “uniform” of evil cannot be tagged as skin color.
The identifying feature of evil is misuse of power for personal gain: political corruption.
If the force of public opinion could be united across nonsense definitions (race/creed), the true enemy would face existential threat.

Number of half-empty Chicago public schools doubles, yet lawmakers want to extend school closing moratorium – Wirepoints

A set of state lawmakers want to extend CPS’ current school closing moratorium to February 1, 2027 – the same year CPS is set to transition to a fully-elected school board. That means schools like Manley High School, with capacity for more than 1,000 students but enrollment of just 78, can’t be closed for anther three years. The school spends $45,000 per student, but just 2.4% of students read at grade level.
