While CPS battles CTU over contract, the clear losers will be Chicagoans. – Wirepoints on Univision Chicago.

Ted Dabrowski joined Enrique Martínez of Univision Chicago to talk about the ongoing negotiations between the Chicago Public School and the Chicago Teachers Union, and the latest mediator report. The interview is in Spanish, but we’ve added English subtitles.

It’s a big battle between the two monopolies, but no matter who loses, salaries and costs will jump. It’s only a question of how much. CPS already spends $30,000 per student. Salaries for teachers are at an average of almost $100,000 per teacher.

Everybody’s forgetting about the Chicagoans who’ll have to suffer more property tax hikes to pay for these schools, most of them operating under near-zero accountability.

The longer version of the interview in Spanish, with Enrique’s introduction, is here.

A good start would be for the CPS to state that they will not be renewing the contract and that any teacher who wishes to be employed by the CPS will be on a performance based model. Watch the screaming and gnashing of teeth begin! 30K + per student for some of the lowest proficiency numbers is insanity.

Enough with headlines like this. It’s time for an audit and removing these thugs from our city.

Student test scores should most definitely be tied to teacher evaluations to make public the discrepancies of teacher evaluations. Raises need to be based on student outcomes
