Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about the free speech controversy brewing in Wilmette due to the city’s refusal to fly a religious freedom flag, the city’s left-wing excesses and the growing culture war, the latest money spent on the illegal immigrant crisis, and more.

Audio and summary
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
Very good point by Ted abut Government speech vs. individual speech. Was unanimous decision by Supreme Court very recently, but Freedom of Speech hasn’t trickled down into Wilmette yet.

The Whole discussion about what banners government should display is just stupid. Government should stay out of it and fly the US and State Flag. Period. No “sides”. Just US and State – we are all together. Nothing more needed – the rest is personal BS. Time for people to identify as US Citizens and Citizens of the state they live. Time for people to pledge allegiance to the Flag and Country of the United States. This basic level of commitment to the Country is lacking in today’s society. Needs to change.
How about support for constitutional issues, say a Flag that supports the 3rd Amendment, No Quartering of Troops?
Gets to be partisan politics very quickly when the localities decide to show support for one political group or another.
Yep, very partisan. I guess my point is that there shouldn’t be additional “flags” flown on government buildings. Just the US and State Flag. If people want to fly some sort of banner at their home or carry it down the street – ok, what ever. But on a government building US and State Flag only. Clean, decisive and done.
Right on. That’s my view exactly. Just fly the US and state flag. Period.
I also think Proft went overboard with his rant about Wilmette, where I live. Yes, we have our share of progressives here, but we also have a huge moderate population, including big populations of Catholics and Jews, most of whom aren’t crazy about what they are seeing across America. And it’s not about gay rights, which most everybody here believes in, including me. This was about opposition to government selection of one issue, when there are many that it should be concerned about. Divide-and-conquer for political purposes is not what the government should be doing.
Wire Points does not believe in free speech.
