“There is no reasonable explanation for issuing valet permits to serve taverns and nightclubs that have built a business model around bottle service and rounds of shots,” said Ald. Brendan Reilly, whose goal is to prevent patrons of Chicago’s lively bar scene from driving home drunk.
Brown served as host at last May’s swearing in ceremony for Tiffany Henyard, the first female Mayor of Dolton, who calls Brown her Godmother and mentor. “I think the influence of Dorothy Brown hasn’t been the greatest influence on the mayor,” said Dolton Trustee Edward Steave.
Lightfoot said she does not expect shortages of officers, but explained there are contingency plans in place. “I don’t want to get into all the details of the contingency plan, but the state police have been incredible partners with us, particularly over these last two years, so if there’s a need for us to lean into those resources, then we will.”
Chicago is still in the substantial risk category, with over 300 cases of Covid per day. For the mask mandate to be lifted, CDPH’s Dr. Allison Arwady said we would need to be in the moderate risk category – which would be fewer than 200 daily cases.

The state’s filing also took aim at the firefighters’ claims to a right to “bodily autonomy.” While the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic decision in Roe v Wade appeared to establish such a right, the Pritzker administration argued such a right is not “absolute,” and can be violated by the state to promote public health goals.

They also discussed how the increase in federal cash could help bolster Pritzker and Lightfoot’s re-election odds.
FOP President John Catanzara explained what makes Chicago Police different than all city employees facing this same mandate. “I guess, for one, we work a profession that nobody wants at this point. They can’t get anyone to take this job. The other unions in this city have seemed to literally just lay down and decided, ‘Let them [the FOP] take the lead. If they win, we all win. Let them have the fight.'”
