Tinley Park teachers union may strike Sept. 22 – Illinois Policy

Walking out on students has become a go-to strategy for many affiliates of the Illinois Federation of Teachers and the Illinois Education Association, the two biggest teachers unions in Illinois. Earlier this school year, Valley View Council Local 604, an affiliate of IFT, set a Sept. 18 strike date but reached a tentative agreement before walking out. The Naperville Unit Education Association, an affiliate of IEA, voted to authorize a strike but reached a tentative contract agreement one day later.

Aurora flags raised early despite orders to honor Charlie Kirk, citing solemnity of 9/11 tribute – FOX32 (Chicago)

Gov. JB Pritzker announced that all Illinois flags were to be flown at half-staff in honor of “victims of political violence” Sept. 12-14, following the president’s lead. But Aurora Mayor John Laesch ordered all flags on city property to be raised to full staff Sept. 12, saying, ” … (L)owering the flag is a solemn act that carries great weight. The choice to do so should not be made cavalierly. Doing so diminishes the importance of the remembrance of tragedies like September 11, 2001.”
