There were 36,000 new claims last week, which is four times the amount a year ago. The data shows that unemployment was up in every Illinois metro area.
The actions taken in Bond, Clay, Clinton, Edgar, Richland and Sangamon counties seek court orders declaring there is no public health emergency as defined by Pritzker’s Public Health Department. But Pritzker general counsel Ann Spillane said the plaintiffs’ attorney Thomas DeVore is “playing a game.”

“ComEd admitted to doing really bad things to get a $2 billion deal,” State Rep. Mark Batinick said. “Of course this should be revisited.”
Said Rep. David Welter, of Morris, “The fact is, both the City of Chicago and the Illinois Commerce Commission plan to hold hearings of their own and call ComEd officials to testify. Why not Mike Madigan’s House of Representatives?”
This potential new allegation is asking Clay County Circuit Court Judge Michael McHaney to prevent any of Pritzker’s further orders from affecting residents in that area. It also asks the judge to agree the governor does not have any valid emergency powers in the county and his June 26 declaration is not enforceable.
“The essence here is consent,” Judge Andrew Napolitano said. “If the state officials or local officials consent to the introduction of federal assets on the streets and for law enforcement purposes there is no constitutional impediment.”

Soon, if circumstances progress the way they’re trending, there will be criminal charges levied against Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan. U.S. Attorney Bill Barr said Wednesday that agents in Chicago will not be tasked with quelling mob action as they were in Portland, rather investigate murders and aid local law enforcement in apprehending criminals.
Madigan controls four funds: the Democratic Party of Illinois ($2.4 million currently), the Democratic Majority fund ($4.3 million), the 13th Ward Democratic Org ($2.2 million), and the Friends of Michael J Madigan fund ($13.6 million). That’s a total of $22 million that Madigan can move around heading into the November election.
“Our caucus uniformly condemns this,” said Rep. Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst). “It’s hurting the people of our state. It is flat wrong.” The Republicans also highlighted a portion of Pritzker’s State of the State Address this year addressing the need for ethics reform.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security said 38,261 unemployment claims were filed during the week of July 6 in Illinois.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, the rolling 7-day positivity rate increased very slightly Thursday to 3.4%, up from 3.2% a day earlier. “If there had been one national strategy employed by our federal government — like a national mask mandate — perhaps things would be different. But that hasn’t happened, and we can’t rely on that possibility,” Pritzker said
“The social contract has been broken … between the banks and the community,” said Donna Clarke, interim president and chief operating officer of Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago. Clarke said she does not intend to single out Chase — other major banks should give a billion dollars, too.
The notice period would remain at 30 days for tenants who have lived in their apartment for six months or less, would be raised to 60 days for renters with between six months and three years in the same apartment and four months for those who have been living in their home more than three years.

In Clinton County, public health officials have asked at least 160 individuals to isolate after they went to large gatherings without wearing masks. Hundreds were exposed at those gatherings.

Records show that AT&T has used several of the same former Madigan staffers and ex-Democratic state representatives as Commonwealth Edison, which was accused in federal charges unveiled last Friday of orchestrating a “years-long bribery scheme” involving jobs, contracts and payments to Madigan allies in exchange for favorable action in the state Capitol.
“I’ve never seen things worse in this city than they are right now,” said the Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Roman Catholic priest and longtime activist on the city’s South Side. Much of the strain stems from the fact that it remains unclear exactly what the federal officers will do here.
