CPD’s homicide clearance rate reached 71 percent last year — up from 55 percent in 2024 — amid a sharp decline in murders that helped buoy the figure. Records obtained by the Tribune show CPD detectives cleared fewer cases in 2025 — 296 — than in any year since 2019. The online tool maintained by Northwestern University’s student-run newspaper pinpoints sightings of immigration officers, detailing locations, vehicles, and even descriptions of federal agents. The “ICE On Notice” order directs members of the Chicago Police Department to investigate and document any alleged illegal activity by federal immigration agents. That evidence will then be referred to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

According to Chicago police, the shooting occurred following an argument between an unknown male, whose age was not released, and a group of other males on a CTA Bus that turned into a fight. During the incident, a firearm went off striking two males victims, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, who were involved in the fight.

Notably, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s press release announcing the executive order did not mention Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke and did not include any quotes from her office. Instead, it featured a lengthy endorsement from Larry Krasner, the District Attorney of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
