Mayor Lori Lightfoot will meet with Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, and Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris. She will also meet with business leaders to “explore new opportunities” and “participate in a series of roundtable discussions and attend policy briefings with local City Hall leadership, including one in London, focused on building back a better city after COVID-19 and another in Paris on its 15-minute city initiative.”

The $1 billion plan for renovations at Union Station includes a new hotel above the Great Hall, 100,000 square feet of office space, two 12-story residential towers above the Headhouse, 110,000 square feet of new retail space, two 750,000-square-foot office towers, new landscaped terraces and plazas, a 500,000-square foot residential tower above the rail lines at Jackson and Canal, street level plazas, enhanced street-level entrances, improved pedestrian access, and new landscaping.

The move to hire Tchen follows local and national controversies, most notably her role advising disgraced New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo during a #MeToo scandal. Tchen also faced criticism from some Chicago-area #MeToo advocates for endorsing Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle for Chicago mayor in 2019. Preckwinkle faced scrutiny over her handling of sexual assault accusations against her former chief of staff.
