Illinois part of coalition suing to protect student loan forgiveness – Center Square

Under the law signed by President George W. Bush in 2007, workers are entitled to forgiveness for the remaining balance of their loans if they dedicate 10 years to government or nonprofit work and stay up to date with their payments. Friday, the Department of Education issued a rule that threatened to remove eligibility for student loan forgiveness to anyone who works for someone with “a substantial illegal purpose.”

Bill to regulate homeowners’ insurance rates fails on final day of veto session – Capitol News IL

Sen. Michael Hastings, the chief sponsor of the insurance bill, plans to reintroduce the bill in the 2026 session. He attributed its defeat in the veto session to last-minute lobbying by the insurance industry. “The insurance industry, you want to talk about one of the strongest lobbying arms at the Capitol,” he said. “Ninety-nine percent of that piece of legislation was agreed upon.”

Video shows hostile crowd surround Border Patrol agents as arrest turns violent in Evanston – FOX News

According to DHS, the Border Patrol vehicle had been “aggressively tailgated by a red vehicle.” When agents attempted to make a U-turn, the sedan collided with their car. One of the suspects then “physically assaulted” an agent by kicking and targeting his groin, prompting the officer to deliver “defensive strikes.” Said DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin, “A hostile crowd then surrounded agents and their vehicle and began verbally abusing them and spitting on them.”
